People Eating Sugar or Sugar Eating People

By Farid Masood • Mar 2nd, 2008 • Category: Politics, Worth A Second Look • One Response

There were times when people disliked white sugar very much. People who make it part of their food items (deserts etc) keep white sugar in hidden places so that people don’t know about it.

With the passage of time need of sweetener increased and the sales of white sugar increased. Last year sugar was hoarded and the rate risen from Rs 18 per kg to Rs 42 per kg. A few dozen people from then ruling party PML-Q earned billion of rupees in a few week time. After this earning now rate per kilogram has decreased to Rs 29 ~ 32 per kg.

Contemporarily the nation is under tremendous economic pressures (due to fake policies of the government who head is enjoying a pleasure life in England) now unable to purchase the sugar at the price around Rs 30 per kg. People are forced to lineup before every outlet of Utility Store Corporation to purchase sugar at lesser rates. At Utility Stores sugar is being sold not less than 5 kg packing. Since the tenure of General Ayub Khan (1962) were are buying daily use items in queue. Where are our mega claims of best economy?

Today I saw people fighting for their turn and staff deputed at Utility Stores beating the poor public with a stick. Two queues were their one for men and the other ones for women. Almost 50~70 heads could be counted on each queue in a small town where only one outlet of Utility Stores Corporation exists.

From today government had increased Petrol @ Rs 4 per liter and Diesel @ Rs 3.5 per Liter adding miseries to the life of a common man. Today’s rate of good quality Rice per kg is Rs 80 and the shop keeper was telling me the next price is Rs 85 per kg in a day or two.

In such an environment how can you reduce crime, how can you control law and order, how can you control other evils, I am sure from these two queue if I ask a person for suicide mission I may get one from that 100+ gathering. Our policies are preparing the minds to become a suicide bomber. Do we need any preaching?

  1. Very true Fareed sahib! The deteriorating standards of life have made the life of common man, miserable. Financial aspect is one of the biggest attraction for any would-be suicide bomber.
Lets hope the newly elected Government would make some efforts to ameliorate the situation albeit the leaders are not causing any hope if we see their role in past few weeks. It looks nobody is interested to work for Pakistan. They are busy in doing ‘POLITICS’ instead of playing their due role.
