Hi amicus,
Missing Musharff or Zia ?
Just you have to look at your erstwhile brothers East Pakistan and how they took to democracy just like fish to water.
Your Army is still doing the bidding of AMERICANS and it requires an enemy India to kill democracy and keep its population under control.
You know the Truth in your heart man.

the same old 'boring' story repeated once again. I hope that the author takes time and make this into a short summary. May be he has the luxury of time on his hands but we the readers need a compelling story to keep us interested.
Whatever his views may be but one thing is for sure that Musharraf still enjoys the respect and dignity that is reserved only to a Head of State around the world. His latest lecture tour of United States was a 'big' success. He will come back very soon and will be actively participating in the politics of Pakistan. The courts are going to decide very soon the fate of Mian Nawaz Sharif and as per my information...the verdict is clearly out as he is going to be declared ineligible for running as a candidate in elections in Pakistan. As for as Zardari is concerned...he will soon be thrown out by his own party- men.

Amicus,

You are older than me and very much more experienced than what I am but there are certain things in your article that could not understand and accept.

Good article but I disagree with you, national security can be attained by democracy also. One cant rate national security over democracy, this is the cause of Military rule in Pakistan. Gulf countries like Saudi, are under monarchy, they have never seen democracy, is there a threat of national security to those guys, I don't think so, but still there is no democracy over there.

National security can be seen in different ways, one view is of enemy of country like case of US and Iraq or Israel and Palestine, other could be of Afghanistan were the country is under formation. But till what time will you think that nation is not secure enough for democracy to come in.

In Pakistan democracy could not succeed due very many factors, and also because of the other external factors. But that time also people who were leaders could not make people believe in democracy and its benefits.

I was going through one of the articles in newspaper not sure whether it was Indian or Pakistani, but it had stated that one needs to be impatient with democracy, which I totally disagree, democracy is a process, and all the process evolve over a period of time. If you show impatience to the process it will not take shape and the results will be achieved. In democracy you need to have patience and willingness to continue with it. Showing impatience is only going to harm you as people and as a nation.

In any nation were democracy is there, has few political parties who fight elections, if one political party is not good and chose other, if still they are not able to do good for the country raise your voice, but in a proper way. Let the people at top know that you are looking for and let them take actions on that. Many people mostly look at the region they belong to, lets take a case in India, the railway minister of India is from Bihar so he has started many new trains and routes in his state, we can say that he is biased towards his state, but if you look at it from other angle, people from villages who could not come to cities are now able to reach places like Kolkatta which close for them for jobs.

When democracy is taking growing and its roots are growing to strengthen it, there will be certain acts which all the people will not like, but in the long run thing will change and they will change for the good of all.

All you need is belief in it. Democracy also provides national security, it is one of its prime pillar and it places importance on that, but that is not the only thing for it. People welfare is also a important pillar for it.
