Pakistani Girls : Easy Targets
By Amna Gilani • Sep 12th, 2009 • Category: Features • 22 CommentsMy friend Rubab was returning for her university and she took the turn in her street at 2 pm, when the street was deserted as people were tired due to fasting, she was thrown a side by a push. Bewildered and shocked, as she tried to get up on her feet, she was slapped and a boy tried to snatch her handbag, while another on the motorcycle pointed a gun at her.
She had some important notes, books and cell phone in her bag. She was not much concerned about the phone, but for her notes, as she had prepared them after months of attending lectures and hardwork. She tried to resist the snatching, but was not the match for the boy. She then pleaded with them that she had nothing of value in her bag, and they could take away mobile phone, but return her bag. She was slapped again and also kicked on the backside by the boy, as they sped away.
After two hours, my friend started receving phone calls from her friends and teachers at her home at PTCL number. They all asked for her mother and started condoling with her. Her mother asked them what happened, and they said that somebody has SMS them that rubab has died.
What a cruel bunch of boys they were. Not only they did such a shameless crime, but also had the nerve to make such a cruel joke.

Very bad , it really hurts when i read such incidents happening in Pakistan, as we call ourself Muslims.
it just gets worse by the day, by the moment, by the hour.

In such incidents all civilians are easy target for arm men who are unemployed, frustrated and want to earn more in short period.These incidents are now our daily routine and in Pakistan almost 200 to 500 mobile phones are snatched on daily basis regardless of any specific gender as targets.
Thats really a shame.It seems mobile snatching has become so easy for them that now they have started playing pranks on the poor victims……

I remeber when i went to Newyork, i was told not to resist the subway robbers.I think you should tell your friends NOT to resist snatching.Carry pepper spray or learn some basic defence but if there are two boys, it is better to give the purse.
Now so called experts say not to resist a robber. I wonder if a time will come when they will say not to resist a rapist, actually it’s pretty close to it.
Islam teaches us to resist these criminals. We are told to fight to defend what is ours. We are winners whether we loose or win. If you die protecting/defending what’s yours then you will go to Jannat, and if the attacker dies then he will go to Hellfire but you will not be a sinner. This is from the hadith of the Prophet (salallahu alayhi wasalam).
If the criminal know that you will be an easy target and will not resist then they will target you. If they know you will not be an easy target then they will not approach you. why do you think they would attack a petite woman and not a big bulky built muscle man?
We as Muslims need to know how to defend ourselves, especially the sisters need to know. You know how bad the situation is in your country then why not spend your time learning martial arts to defend yourself. Learning to protect yourself takes priority over learning what they teach you in schools.
At the time of the Prophet (salallahu alayhi wasalam) women were brave, knew how to and did protect themselves. Now Muslimah have become weak and have learned from the movies to do nothing but scream or look for a night in shining armor come for the rescue.

Very sad but there is no gender discrimination in these cases, ppl are frustrated by poverty and unemployment, we cant ignore the fact that some boys of very well off families are invoved in these activities only for the sake of enjoyment, May ALLAH show them the rite path Ameen.

This is not because of poverty. A poor man can’t efford a motor-cycle. Its all adrenaline. Young boys wanna have fun. They steal for fun. They snatch for fun. They kill for a fun. There is no religious, poverty motive behind it.
Most of the mobile-snatching incidents are carried out by boys of middle-class families. One of the boys told on TV once that he did it all for fun, selling phone was also a fun for him. Because gaining money from that is more fun.
I never see a boy of jama daar doing all this.
This is all middle-class bored boys. Adrenaline freaks.
They will get a real adrenaline rush when their victim takes out a gun and starts shooting at them. Maybe this is what needs to be done by the people to protect themselves.
this country is inhabited by animals. Everyone in Ramadan is trying very hard to be a good muslim when there is not a drop of humanity in them. shame on you people.

Its so sad. yesterday there was a program on GEO TV. About the Police, they should encounter such people and kill on the spot. I voted for the same thing.
