Pakistan Cricket

Cricket and Pakistan have always been together since our independence. The progress has always been topsy turvy like economy of a  country or inexplicable geomatric graphs which i never understood as student. Cricket has always been in my life and the passion started when i was quite young. My father used to play cricket for Railways and I inherited it. I have closely followed the game since my early childhood. I used to get up at 3.30 am in the morning to listen the radio commentary from ABC on shortwave. I was a great fan of Jim Maxwell the famous Australian commentator. Sushil Doshi in Hindi also impressed me a lot and Iftikhar Ahmed was also my favorite till i listened to Bill Lawry and then David Gower.

Pakistan are 1/127 at Sydney Cricket Ground SCG and Tony Greig is saying Akhmal,Mishbah to follow and Warne is objecting to his pronunciation. After a long long time i have enjoyed a test match involving Pakistan. Pakistan shot out Australia for 127 then equalled the score for the bad shot of Imran Farhat . Our batsmen used to be best players of spin and now we give best bowling figures to unknown spinners like Nathan Hauritz. We have been generous in making players for other teams. Often the bowlers have become allrounders while playing against our team. I can remember at least 10 such examples. Our bowlers have a habit to hate batting and fielding. We hate to field anyway as our general attitude in life is lethargic. We waste a lot of time in offices, schools, colleges, businesses and everywhere in tea breaks, gup-shup so we also hate to run after a ball or stopping anything speeding at us. We have normally soft hands and it’s the main reason behind wrist movement flexibility in our batsmen and bowlers.

So far this Test Match has been in Pakistan’s favor despite very ordinary performance from Umar Gul and excellent performances from rejuvenated Muhammad Sami and  Muhammad Asif. Both the bowlers are have got a secondlease of  life and they are trying to settle in the team. The competition is tough now as lots of young fast bowlers are waiting to grab an opportunity but the selection process is also unique in our country which is neither on merit nor performnace but only on the sweet will of some selector or relationship to some PCB member. Selection of Pakistan Cricket Team and Captain, team unity, planning and strategy, coaching, technical aspects of the game and above all mind set of the PCB and players are some areas which you will see in my future posts regularly. But is gone for 71 and Pakistan are now 144/2 and both openers have missed what could have been hard fought centuries. At 10.30 pm i am feeling a little bit tired and beg you leave till next post. Stay warm and safe in your cozy homes with your families .

  1. Good to read that Cricket is your Passion as I do have the passion of National Pakistani Cricket Team Winning at abroad & very specific when Pakistan is facing to India. In my view the team is considered a strong but unpredictable team. Traditionally Pakistani cricket has been filled with players of great talent but limited discipline, making them a team which could play inspirational cricket one day and then perform less than ordinarily another day.

  2. Well you never know. Aussies are a very very tough and professional unit. My fingers are crossed till we hit the winning runs.

  3. Update Paksitan 126/6 chasing 176. Umar Akmal and Sami on the crease

Earlier at least 4 catches were dropped by Kamran Akmal how can one expect them to win——–Only via Prayers I guess

  4. Sorry Guys One has play also to win Only Prayers cant win you matches———————-A terrible Defeat Nevertheless —————- Th only for us to win a Test Match against the AUS,SA etc is if someone gives it to us in a Plate. Very disappointed today the chances of a Silver Lining were there but———– what can we do about it

  5. Its beyond That “Unpredictability” Notion Totally “Unacceptable” to say the least.

  6. Thank you so very much for your comments. Please read my other blog Can we win in Sydney?

  7. I really cannot understand why players like faisal iqbal and kuram manzor are playing in the team. Is javeed mindad is giving more importance to his family over country and plus i believe karachi factor is involved in the slection as well.

  8. likewise imran farhat is the son in law of one of the selectors name muhammad illyaz. what is happening in pakistani cricket. Coruption , favorutism or karachi factor ????????????????

  9. Imran Farhat is not from Khi. Faisal wasn’t that bad, he got some scores, but didn’t do well in Sydney.
Khalid has an acceptable record, he should be given more chances. As for the Khi factors, Sarfaraz, Fawad, Asim Kamal, Khurram - we can see what treatment they are getting. Its always been about excluding Khi players. Unless there is transparency and a just selection, things won’t improve.
Kamran Akmal has lost a lot of my respect, as has Umar for how they have behaved. Same goes for Yusuf.
