Pakistan Cricket: Time to Overhaul Everything
By Ali Yar Khan • Feb 1st, 2010 • Category: Politics, Worth A Second Look • 12 CommentsBefore the cricket becomes hockey in Pakistan and goes to the dustbin of oblivion, we need to get up and blow away the movers, shakers and players of the current dispensation responsible for cricket in Pakistan.
Yes we won the world cup of cricket in 1992, but dammit that is 18 years ago. How we won it is more like a lucky story anything else. But whatever, it has passed long ago, and since then we haven’t won any considerable event and above all our performance never remained consistent and now for the last one decade, our decline in this great game has gone bonkers, and now we are no better than Bangladesh or Zimbabwe.
We don’t have any bowlers, batsmen, all rounders, fielders, professional cricketers. We don’t have any openers and we don’t have any middle orders. We don’t have any fast strike bowlers and our wicket keeper is a shame. Fielding is as ridiculous as anything, and there is no certainty and credibility of our players.
The plight of the cricket board, team management and the selection committee is highly pathetic. Selectors are digging out dead players from the past. Why the old men like Misbahul Haq, Rana Naveed, and others like them are being called again and again? How many more matches, money and resources would be wasted on cheater like Shahid Afridi? What’s there in Younus Khan, Salman Butt, Shoaib Malik and other idiots?
Solution?
A new board and a new selection committee. They all should spread throughout country, especially in FATA, Balochistan, remote areas of Sindh and Punjab and find boys with talent. I can assure that talent is overflowing throughout Pakistan. All these idiots in Pakistani team have blocked this talent for too long. All the current team should be dismantled and new blood should be brought in.
That is the only solution.

Its a wonderful article, full of passion for cricket and nationalism. I fully agree with the writer who has depicted the frustration and true feelings of the nation in his post. The real problem is PCB and the coterie of Ijaz Butt. The Patron in Chief does not know a bail of cricket and no time for PCB. He appointed Butt as Chairman to make money for him as it is one of the most powerful and attractive posts in Pakistan. Even 10% would be enough for any one from Marketing and Broadcasting rights.
To hell with the team and the nation, just fix the matches and make money for Chairman and Patron.
I totally agree with you! We need to stop living on past glory. New talent needs to rise, which could be a helping factor for so many youth who are on the verge of doing something extremely regrettable. We need someone to take the incentive and go make a team which could be a national team, maybe Agg maybe Geo maybe a combination of sponsors are needed. But the importace and significance of our sports industry needs to be understood first, currently, it’s highly undervalued.
And why in the hell Afridi tried to chew out the ball? Desperation for the victory is understandable but cheating???? Afridi should be banned for life by PCB himself, or shall we give him NRO?
Afridi saying that every team is NOW CHEATING and tampering the ball is realy something.
Greatest human quality is NOT winning at any cost but accepting defeats as a sign to do better. I hope Pakistanies allow their team to be beaten sometimes. It is not defending your country or something. IT IS A GAME AFTER ALL.
First things first. Take out the PCB headquarter out of Lahore, bring it to Karachi. Metropolitan culture investment/ money and exposure of a cilty like Karachi is essntial for overhaul and over all development of the Sport and other fields. This can be true for film industry as well. If not heeded timely, fate of film industry is known to all.
Dear Ali Yar,
Look no further then the event in July 2009 held in England. Then again its time to move on from that also.
“A new board and a new selection committee” may not be the complete solution.
The team selected was the best XI available.
Its a pity that our best were not good enough.
Why blame slectors for the mistakes commited on the field?
The selectors did not threw away their wicket or dropped the catches, did they?
Cure the Disease, Not the symptoms.
Follow the Australian model, improve our infrastructure revamp the domestic development of the young cricketers. They train and improve their boys when they are learning. That is when its is effective.
Best Regards
What a joke. Pakis want a share of IPL cake but dosent know what winning is. What a white wash. Could not manage even a single win. First the Kiwis and now the Aussies.
I think even the School Kids 11 can beat this team. Retroespect and perform. Make the world show some respect for this team and then expect your players to be chosen in IPL.
And sumone please give Afridi something to eat he cant even spare the ball Hehehehehe.
Bye for Now Cheaters and Losers.
Gani M.
Tell your allah to give u atleast one victory in a cricket match and atleast learn to write properly.
It shows your country in poor light although i know its always been bad hehehe.
I think the only expectation was T20 in Australia to bring home some honour.I think the T20 world championship we won was just a fluck. So its a clean slate now for Pakistan who managed to win nothing. Vow.
I think we should not overhaul cricket we must stop playing it.
