Over Billing Orders to Electric Suppliers

By Sameer Shaharyar • Oct 28th, 2008 • Category: Politics • No Responses

Though the government circles and the management of electric supply companies are vehemently denying this news that they have been ordered to over bill the consumers, the bills of this month speak for themselves. Due to intense load-shedding people are hardly getting any electricity and yet the bills of a common household have passed any sane limits. For a typical household which used to pay electricity bill of whooping Rs. 1500  and near about has been forced to pay the bill of Rs. 3000 to Rs. 4000.

In the country where jobs are being fired due to the lesser work in the industry because of lack of power, these bills are criminal and the ugly irony is that people are using much less electricity than the yester-months. People are having heart attacks due to the over billings and two people have died after get shocked by the bills. People don’t have money to buy flour, how they could pay for the electricity they never used?

President Zardari and the minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf must take some prompt actions in this regard. First they should curtail their own usage of electricity because when people see the illuminating President Palace and the sparkling huge castle-like house of Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, their heart burns. Then they should ban the free usage of power by the WAPDA employees and they should adopt strict check and balance about power usage in the government offices including defense.

This will at lease provide some relief to the badly hurt people of this hapless country, who are now resorting to violent protests.
