On-Air Government
By Ayaz Ali • Feb 10th, 2010 • Category: Politics • No ResponsesI am not surprised from the current political situation in Pakistan. After the entire “Terrorism” thing and its “elimination” going on, it could have caused things to go even worse than they are right now. Arguably, things are pretty much, I bet say, intact. Bad times come in every country, situations even worse than those that are right now have come in almost every nation that exists on the map today but the real thing is, the thing which matters the most is that In Those Hard Times How the Political Body Reacts and How the Government Organizations Act in Response to that Situation.
The democratically elected Ministers of the National Assembly pass no more than a mere 40 percent of their time in their offices. Ironically, half of them spend just 25 percent of their time in their office and more sarcastically few of them go beyond expectations and spend just 10 percent of their time in their office. During the PML-Q time of the Government under the Leadership of PM Shauqat Aziz a female member of the National Assembly did not attend a single National Assembly hearing in a period of two years. She spent all of her time abroad. So the Question is where these MNAs and MPAs spend most of their time? The answer is somewhere you and me see all the time and somewhere no one can see.
You won’t be surprised for the fact that every time to turn on the TV you would see a Minister or any responsible person from the government machinery sitting on the desk and being interviewed by a highly paid critic owned by any national or a foreign media agency; a person who is paid to find out the people responsible for how some things went wrong but however they cannot repair the damages or control the Law and Order situation. Most of the them you’ll find to be on news channels but nowadays the Political leaders are found to be on comedy shows as well, such like that of Jahangir Badar’s appearance of the PTV show “mashwara muft hai”. With the country going on the hardest of the times and the law and order situation totally torn apart, our leaders enjoy their makeup appearance on a fine TV show with a beautiful host and a handful of cheesy performers and viewers. Furthermore, some have even crossed the ladders and have been found on dance parties and clubs. With the responsible people out of camps and offices, who is there to give orders and study the circumstances?
Every Minister, MNA and MPA is granted free access to all the government rest houses throughout Pakistan, so they spend good time of theirs attending guests and having people coming over. They enjoy a good meal in the fine hotels before preparing for the hot TV show that night.
Hardly any Minister arrives in his office on time. They spend most of their time wandering here and there. Unlike the Ministers, the MNAs and MPAs do not have their offices, so how can they listen to the questions and queries of common people, or where can an ordinary man come to submit his application. Most of the MNAs and MPAs’ set up their personal “unofficial” offices in their reachable venues to which only their party members and voters have an open access, so their favours are restricted to their voters only.
