Noble and Simpleton Makhdoom Amin Fahim
By Sameer Shaharyar • Aug 10th, 2008 • Category: Politics • One ResponseAfter General (r) Pervez Musharraf, if Asif Ali Zardari should be grateful to anybody for his current role and the bountiful NRO, then it should be Makhdoom Amin Fahim, who still holds the top slot in the Pakistan People’s Party though its just a cosmetics.
The reason why Asif Ali Zardari is at the helm of the affairs now and has become a virtual king maker, and also the reason why he has got a clean chit to enjoy the wealth amassed by the years of corruption by him and his late wife, is the secret meetings of Makhdoom Amin Fahim with the Musharraf and his strongmen on the behest of late Benazir Bhutto, who was assassinated last year in Rawalpindi and her spouse Zardari got a chance to take over her party and everything else.
When sometime back, in a famous one night incident when Zardari was found missing from the PIMS hospital and Benazir was raising hell in Washington about his whereabouts, it was Makhdoom Amin Fahim who had taken Zardari to the Musharraf and that was the initial point of bondage between PPP and Musharraf.
One has to give credit to the noble Makhdoom of Hala to not to sell himself to the many temptations to become prime minister after 2002. He was even offered premiership after the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, but he stuck to the principles and despite of his friendship with Musharraf, he refused to hijack the party from Zardari.
It’s good of him to facilitate his friendship with Musharraf in the testing times, but he is a national political leader, and he should also read the pulse of the nation and at least abstain from supporting Musharraf, if he cannot support his impeachment.

Do you consider a person of Amin Fahim’s calibre, who puts principles before personal greeds and temptations, a simpleton? Does your ‘political’ lexicon define people of conviction and principles as stupid?
Your recommendation, to the Makhdoom of Hala, regarding abstention from the planned and much much “celebrated” impeachment proceedings against the President of Pakistan, sounds to me a little vague, especially coming from a chronic Musharraf hater. I mean your hatred has blurred your thoughts a bit. Think it through one more time what it would really accomplish - let me explain, it will pour that proverbial cold water on the hopes of your ‘hero’ and might even cause ‘political pneumonia’ , which certainly would please me as I can almost foresee his ‘political death’. I sincerely hope that Makhdoom Amin Fahim heeds your ‘wonderful advice’ and abstains with his large ‘vote bank’ in both the houses. It will just be great for you and the rest of us in Pakistan!
