Next Target of Taliban : Punjab

By Rohail Butt • May 16th, 2009 • Category: Politics, Worth A Second Look • 7 Comments

The security environment in Punjab has taken a significant turn for the worse. At the same time, a range of other violent actors - from Punjabi anti-Indian extremists to Central Asian warlords - operate in the non-Pashtun areas of Pakistan, and they are ready to welcome the armed gangs of Taliban from the mountains of Swat and Dir. Remote areas of Northern Punjab like Talagung, Chakwal and some parts of Attock, remote areas of Central Punjab bordering with Seraiki belt and NWFP like Mianwali, Sargodha, Bhakkar and the whole of Southern Punjab has already got massive amount of dormant militants. Some of them came into limelight during the liberty attacks on Sri Lankan team. These Taliban are leveling the ground for their ilk from Swat.

You could guage the scale of the confusion among the Pakistanis from the fact that right now, the most popular party of the country, the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) is not sure about the stand it should take regarding Taliban. When President Zardari pushed the Nizam-e-Adl regulation in the national assembly, PML(N)’s Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan was furious for the delay in implementing the regulation and urged government to implement it that evening.

Now PML(N) is worried about the increasing influence of the Taliban in the regions of NWFP and they have come to realize that the next target of Taliban is Punjab, which is the stronghold of PML(N) and from where Nawaz Sharif derive all his power. Nawaz Sharif is eying to become Next Prime Minister and he has already praising Obama administration out of the blue. With Long March he has shown America that he has got the popular support and now by opposing the Taliban he is also trying to prove  handy for the Americans in their war against terror.

But that may not be the case and PML(N) has perhaps rightly sensed their blunder of supporting Swat deal and now they have come to realize that it was a surrender on the part of government and Taliban took it as their victory and now as they have tasted power, they want more and more of it, and now they want to get their hold over Punjab and then Pakistan and then why not beyond.

  1. PML-N dair aye, durust aye , laykin aaye tou sahi !
NS cannot rise above the party politics

if NS had implanted something (a brain) inside his moti khopri(skull) rather than outside (hair) it
he would have woken a lot earlier and he is still asleep
    plus
he would not had Ch nisar as leader in NA

  2. Butt, “Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) is not sure about the stand it should take regarding Taliban.”

I WOULD HAVE EXPECTED NO CONFUSION ON THIS ISSUE. IS IT SO DIFFICULT TO CHOOSE BETWEEN PAKISTAN and TALIBAN (the terrirists out to destroy our people & our country).

Butt, ” When President Zardari pushed the Nizam-e-Adl regulation in the national assembly”

NAWAZ LEAGUE SHOULD HAVE RESISTED IT INSTEAD OF UNANIMOUS SUPPORT (with just one noble exception the great liberal politician from PML-N the one and only Ayaz Amir, Salutes to him in addition to the great politica visionaries the party of the courageous patriots MQM).

Butt, “PML(N)’s Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan was furious for the delay in implementing the regulation and urged government to implement it (the so called Nizam-e-Adl!) that evening.

WHAT ELSE DID YOU EXPECT FROM THESE POLITICAL NINCOMPOOPS THE DADDOOS ?

Mr. Butt, you have rightly mentioned where Nawaz’s is focussed. He will do anything to get to power no matter what happens to us & Pakistan.

  3. PML-N is worried and confused because the Pak establishment has stopped outright support for Taliban. They are still unsure of the logical outcome of the fighting in Swat. NS’s only concern is to come back to power and this time they are trying to use the right channels. As they say road to power in Pakistan goes through Washington.

  4. Recently many more foreign delegates were seen frequenting their visits to see PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif at his Raiwind Estate near Lahore. Visitors from USA were in the lead. Nawaz Sharif has the soft corners for the traitors– Taliban.

In the on going Swaat-Malakand debacle reportedly Taliban of TTP has been offering a tough calculate resistance to the advancing Pak Army troops deputed to cleanse these traitors. Pak army is conducting this operation the most successive way and ample area has been cleared of Taliban. TTP remnants particularly found beyond Buner are being dealt with now.

But the Big Question arises that who has armed, trained and equipped these stooges and with whose connivance they are under taking all this rigor and why after all the self styled ‘Amir ul Momaneen’ of the future; Shiri Nawaz Sharif is so perturbed against their cleansing from this troubled Swaat-Malakand area?

What all is up shiri Nawaz sharif’s sleeves?

  5. NS has old nexus with Taliban. Shaheed Banazir accsed Al-Qaeda of financing Sharif to overthrow her Government in 1996. NS came into power after her Government with heavy mandate to become Amir-ul-Momineen. His dream to be Amir-ul-Momineen was abruptly cut short by Parvez Musharaf in 1999. He cut a shoddy deal to while away his time in luxury at Sarwar palace in Saudi Arabia, leaving the masses behind. He could not stand and challenge Musharraf while he was President. He showed his teeth only when there was a political/ democratic Government (thanks in part to blunders committed by AAZ). Even though NS remained Prime Minister twice, his thirst for power is insatiable. He still dreams to come back to realize his unfulfilled dream of becoming Amir-ul-Momineen.

  6. BHAKKAR- a gateway to Pakistan for Taliban. The people of BHAKKAR district have elected a chief minister of Punjab and a prime minister of Pakistan in different elections. Although a goup of local leaders sponcer the occasion and personally benefited by this gesture but basically the people of Bhakkar elected these leaders in hope of a better Bhakkar. It’s requested to the President, prime minister of Pakistan and chief minister of Punjab to please consider upgrading Bhakkar as a divisional head quarter by appointing a commissioner to provide better governance, extra facilities and security in the area. There are news that religious violence and drug smuggling is increased in the area recently. Bhakkar is a gate way to the Punjab and Sind provinces for NWFP and Afghanistan. Bhakkar has been head quarters of divisional level organization of Thal Development Authority since 1952. TDA was abolish in 1971 on corruption charges against it’s high officials. Bhakkar is also a border district to Dera Ismail Khan and a capital city of Thal desert area-spread in six districts in Punjab. Thanking you, Khwaja Aftab Shah,Florida, U.S.A
