Nail polish and Ramadan
By captainjohann • Oct 5th, 2008 • Category: Misc • 3 CommentsA young bangladeshi girl from UK was visiting her granny’s house in Dacca during this ramadan. Her granny told her that she must not break fast with Nail polish on. She found it funny and as her granny insisited; she wrote a letter to editor asking for advice. Immediately response came from a lady Marxist of west bengal from India that she can break fast with nailpolish on.Soon a heated debate ensued some for and some against.
Suddenly a Saudi trained or funded Cleric came and gave his ruling. It is haram to break fast with nail polish as every part of hand should be washed and touched by water before breaking fast. But he also came out with another ruling that it is haram to wear nail polish as it is an ornament. It should not be visible to others except her husband or family members! The whole discussion fascinated me as i never knew a Muslim could be guided so much by a cleric.I know when i was young, our teacher used to ask us to cut nails as dirt behind nails is harmful to health. It used to be pain to cut nails with blades and scissors till the nailclipper came into shops during may be 50s.
To me nail polish looked more cleaner than waters of any river of dacca which are highly poluted with all sorts of chemicals and human excreta. But the ornament argument settles the issue as far as the young thing is concerned till goes back to UK. I am also pasting a letter below by a Saudi woman about her discussion with a south asian lady.

Johann! Although reservation in the articles does not need to be countered but nevertheless some assisted opinion in the form of remarks shall and must gain access so to debar as debate, thereby to disembark the issue, as a means of reformation and ultimate system of understanding, privacy of domain, its registration, misconception, accountability, reformation and rectification of wrong perception among non believers of faith, who are outside the domains of Islamic principality and practice as belief.
Although the theme of the article has a mediated built in stratagem of criticism directed and focused as all time part and parcel of rift as belief, however, understandable methodology of the subject as practice, so to aware the mind of its ill factors, would definitely serve the purpose of consoling the mind of its menace as malicious intent.
Johann! Unless acceptance becomes the faith as belief, willingness as practice can not be maintained (Dr Raza).
Acceptance is attitudes that certify belief as compliance; confirms approval and endorse submission as practitioner of laid practices as and per version of school of thoughts.
This is natural agreement of tenancy .you never put your own laws in schools .Do you?
Sir! Acceptance is the foremost step on the ladder of belief in any religion and school.
Belief on the other perspective is a logical, conclusive, interpreted, real or virtual perception which relies on the plateau of admittance as right of entry and follows up as practices.
It has neither the element of personalization nor the equipment of suspicion, reservation, opinion or choice as master of subject in terms of privilege entry.
It has the domain of unforeseen sphere that entangles the individual according to his tendency to accept, admit and acknowledge though obligates the same in practices.
The individual tendency to accept and admit is derived from individual’s innate or acquired instinct to percept, weigh, and compare with the derived findings as per suitability of his affairs and choices which while in the premise of religion or school are based on obligations as laid down theme and principle.
Such tendency to admit are easy to implement or approve in people of low profile as regard to education , low social belongings and immoral traits whereas people with expanded horizon and profile need aggressive approach and attention in the form of justification ,explanation and religion based incentives .
Since belief has logical outlook as vision, in terms of creation and creator, it is always admitted or accepted as natural instinct by human unless naturalist with believe that “the world made itself”.
Belief has no mandatory or obligatory written format in broader perspective until unless the individual enters the domain of acceptance as particular school or religion where obligations and requisites prefixed the move as per right of entry and exit’s as criteria.
It is this point of belief which when enters the domain of religion or school, factors and faucets are introduced so to reorder and organize the thoughts towards the laid route for future grooming as individual accordingly and as per requirement of the school of thoughts.
These laid down criteria with in the domain of boundaries of religion, restricts, restrain, abide and confiscate the individual willingly, though the period of self counseling, understanding, explanations and elevation in term of grooming as faithful person and practitioner.
It is this restricted and reinforced pattern of self induced admittance that creates the essence of faith which hurdles and abstain indulgence in to immoral, and unfaithful acts.
Now if I treat the theory of belief, faith, admittance, indulgence and implementation as per your version of article, I would simply correlate my debate with the motive and desire of all those institution as anti Islam, that are working on the agenda of maligning and victimizing the laid down rules, regulation, in a stranded shariah, so to influx their version of thoughts in to the system of belief and practice within Muslims community.
This act of fascisms is habitual by way of gradual and prompt way of infusion ,thereby deliberately exploiting and condemning such laid down acts and criteria, that are in fact not within their jurisdiction of controversy, being outside the domain of religious principality, but never the less, being so called custodian of ethical practices and rational slogan holder, put every thing in the concept and contest, some times in the name of human rights violation and some times as mass generated move by exercising agenda as, accepted policies of veto states as international law.
To update you for your reserving thoughts on the issue, let me clarify you that every laid principle of practice has its method of proceeding as cautions and necessity, which are never prerequisite, but are always the subject of interest of a faithful practitioner, so to excel his practice in more fruitful and legitimate way of his belief.
This is further to add here that such ifs and buts are not the part and parcel of religion but a piece of caution as humble practice in the eyes of practitioner as suspicion, and scholars as caution, as there are substances like perfumes and products that are impregnated and flooded with alcohol and similar siblings of restricted denominations. Regards
Dear Doctor Raza haider Saheb,
I have neither read the holy Quoran nor the holy bible though i am an Indian christian. I know people discussing about jihad quoting some verses etc. But what i found in the discussion was i could unnecessarily hurt a Pakistani friend without intent. Like recently only i found that Prophet Mohamed must always be accompanied by “Peace be upon HIm”even i found some using abbrevation PBUH!
I read your comments two times and it went over my head because i know you put lot of thought into it which i am unable to comprehend. I know faith and belief has no argument with logic. Somehow i find clerics deciding and interpreting a particular subject when we can read the holy books ourselves is abhorrant to me.If i believe in Islam, why not read relevant portions of the holy Quoran myself and interpret instead of someone(even a learned cleric) having a final say.
Once again i thank you for such a learned comment.
