Musharraf’s Trial : A Pipedream

By Salman Mugsi • Aug 12th, 2009 • Category: Politics • 5 Comments

Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani’s promise that he would act towards the trial of former dictator Musharraf, the moment a unanimous resolution is passed in the national assembly. That shows how deeply PM Gilani is subservient to the presidency as President Asif Ali Zardari is absolutely opposed to any idea of Musharraf’s trial.

All that news and views about fissures between premier Gilani and President Zardari are just hogwash. How could Gilani go against the whims of Zardari, when Zardari could dismiss Gilani in a jiffy and nobody will shed a tear, and install a new man of his own. Syed Naveed Qamar or Shah Mehmood Qureshi is always there to take over. The very condition of unanimous resolution in the national assembly for Musharraf’s trial proves that its a ‘nora kushti’ between PM house and P House.

Parliament of Pakistan could never be unanimous over Musharraf issue, because MQM and PML(Q) are there and they do what they are told to do by the establishment and its ridiculous to even think that establishment would happily let thier own man to be hung by the parliament. How could establishment delegate powers of people to the power and allow them such a unique glee?

WASHINGTON: US has said it will not hinder the process of Pervez Musharraf apprehension as it declared the matter purely related to Pakistan’s internal affairs.

The spokesman to the US foreign office P.J Crowley stated talking to media here on Tuesday.

The government of Pakistan will do whatever it wants with former president Musharraf and US will not interfere in that, spokesman responded to a question.
