Pashtun localities in Karachi are also a problem that we Karachiite find it difficult to deal with. This is about a matter which has not been able to get media attention recently. This is about the health hazard Pashtun slums are causing here. The unchecked migration of Pashtun, especially from Swat area are the biggest cause of spread of Polio virus in our beloved city. Pashtuns who most of the time listen to illetrate, jaahil mullas are not vaccinating their children with polio drops. Their mentally retarded mullas have told them that polio vaccination is conspiracy against Islam and that by vaccinating them with polio drops, west is actually sterilizing their generation. My goodness, can you see the level of damage these jaahil mullas are causing to their own generation?

Now Pashtun localities are breeding ground of deadly polio virus in Karachi. The virus is comming from NWFP with unvaccinated children having polio virus strand that is highly resistant to the polio vaccination also. The vaccination compaign will not be able to much in face of such strand of virus. It is important to quarantine every pashtun child when he or she arrives here in Karachi first so that we could determine whether they are carrying this virus or not. I don’t know why our representative, the MQM is not raising this issue as they did about arrival of talibans in the guise of IDPs. This is a matter of health and well-being of our children and their future. MQM should raise this issue and ensure proper quarantine of all the Pashtun children so that they could also be treated. Children are children, whatever community they belong too. In this way, they will also be benefited and our children will also remain safe here.

The Pashtuns live in the areas like Qasba colony, Quaidabad, and Sohrab goth. Most of the polio cases that are occuring in Karachi are concentrated in the Gulshan-e-Iqbal town. This is the area of Gulshan-e-Iqbal that is right opposite to the Al-Asif Square, near Soharb goth. There are apartments in Gulshan-e-Iqbal that face Al-Asif Square. This is where most of the polio cases are diagnosed.

I hope government will do something to prevent this ugly virus from spreading in our beautiful city.

Pashtuns were necessary evil for this city but now they are becoming threat for the peace and prosperity of this beautiful city. All Pashtuns are certainly not the terrorists. But their slums in Karachi are “vacation resort” for Taliban fighters. These Pashtuns who are illiterate workers are now being fomented by ANP to be politically active in this civilized city of 18 million people. In up country Talibans and ANP are rivals whereas in Karachi they are collaborators. Why? The answer is economy. Both need money to run their nefarious activities. The modus operandi of gaining ground in Karachi is very interesting. Firstly, the government land is grabbed by establishing a mosque, which soon is converted into Madrases, the training academy of fanatic taliban fighters. Then this madrasa is soon surrounded by illegal settlement, which soon turns into No-Go area. After a while, the red flags pop up on the top of these houses suggesting that the people who live there are “secular” pashtuns. In fact, these are talibans living in the guise of ANP supporters. What ANP is getting is money at the end of the day. They may never be able to gain the power in Karachi but would like to live as a pressure group capable to create law and order situation in Karachi. Thus, they are blackmailing government and “earning” the money and other benefits from government.

In destabilizing Karachi, both ANP and Talibans are partners in crime. MQM is the only force that has not only understood this conspiracy but also serving as a bulwark against these criminals. It is MQM that has saved Karachiites otherwise, these Pashtuns would have forced us out of our homes and captured the whole city. The provincial leadership is not only incapable, corrupt and short-sighted but some of its ministers are also the part of these Pashtuns mafia. They are getting their “commission” not thinking how it would damage the interest of their own province.

The greates loser of all this situation is poor Pashtuns who can hardly make their both ends meet by working on daily wages. The corrupt and criminal leadership of ANP has simply made their lives miserable in this city that was generous to them before the active involvement of ANP in criminal activities.

Many, especially the older generation and detractors outside Karachi, will be unwilling to accept this but the MQM’s vast and growing popularity, particularly among the youth, is evidenced by the fact that a majority of the people of Karachi have thrust Altaf Hussain and the MQM into mainstream national level politics. The MQM’s policy to concentrate on its local government wing, Haq Parast, has proven to be a brilliant one; one which has not only pulled the party out of the morass that promised to asphyxiate it forever, but actually won over even more support in Karachi.
