For Hindus ... I cant really quote from their books .. but if we look at the history, Rajput women never ever showed their face to a stranger. Only her family and husband could see her face.

We also have some Christians in our society ... Corinthian-I prescribes the dress code for women, which is same as in Islam .. i.e. the whole body must be covered, and it also prescribes punishment of shaving of head of women who do not observe Purdah ...

Almost everyone in this country is Muslims, and we need to look at the dress code ..

We find the dress code for women in Holy Quran ...

In presence of Mehrem relatives, they must cover their chest area

In presence of strangers, they must cover their whole body .. Hanafi maslak allows keeping the face open, but other Fiqh schools prescribe that their whole body should be covered, including the face.

When a mother gets old at a certain age they would stop wearing pants and shirts too. Most of you are wrong since not all indian mothers stop wearing pants and shirts. I think it's wrong in movies to show a women who gets married to stay in indian clothes forever. I would not do that if I was an indian women/ mother. I would wear saris and wear modern clothes (pant and shirt often) in india. I like modern clothes.
I prefer seeing young mothers and college girls in pant and shirt because it fits them completely. I would have been wearing American clothes in India. It's 2010 nobody should be getting the wrong impression if a girl wears pants and shirts in their own country. They should based on their behavior. Heck if I was a women in her 30's early 40's with children I would still be wearing modern clothes most of the times because they look more professional and comfortable and attractive. And also easier to wear when we are exercising. I would not care what anyone said b/c words mean nothing and women should be given all their rights just like men because they are special people who deserve freedom of choice

Let the women wear whatever they want as long as they are decent. Its better to have somebody who wears pant and shirt most of the time and who is an angel rather than someone in traditional clothing who is cruel.

@ Brother Moosa

Brother, you do not need to answer each and every dumb response. Just find answers from Quran (preferably) and Sahih hadith and paste here. Allah has made the Quran easy for believers to understand and if you see, some of us can easily understand the verses in the above comments. If one person gets Hidayah, it will be more than the treasure of the whole world inshaAllah and I can sense that people have understood Quranic verses pasted here.

Some people here are saying that Indian version of Islam is more authentic, and there should be room for illegitimate romance, dance parties etc etc. That's what sub-continental islam teaches us? If yes, then we have to thank these people, and say, ok you follow your version and I will follow only that which has been passed on by Muhammad Sallalahu Alaihey Wa Aalehi Wassallam.

Worshiping means that you pray, ask help or take anything from a deity etc other than Allah.

So if they are following westerners and taking their own version from non-believers (not from Allah), we do not care, we say to them what Quran has told us:

Allah addresses Prophet Muhammad SAW in Quran in Surah Al Kafiroon:

Say: O disbelievers! (1) I worship not that which ye worship; (2) Nor worship ye that which I worship. (3) And I shall not worship that which ye worship. (4) Nor will ye worship that which I worship. (5) Unto you your religion, and unto me my religion. (6)

We have the duty of conveying the message but if they don't understand we should not waste our time on these deaf, dumb and blind, our duty is to convey the message to more intelligent people who can understand and interpret the message more easily.

Remember, these will be the same people, who make noises when their spouses go to night clubs and dance and involve in illegitimate romance and ask to impose every possible punishment, not just what is in Hudood Ordinance :)
