Moon Sighted in Pakistan : UN Chief Become a Man

By Brig. (r) Junaid Zaman • Feb 4th, 2009 • Category: Politics, Worth A Second Look • 16 Comments

The spectacular failures of United Nations have shown it’s inability to provide any lasting and real relief to the world except playing lackey in the hands of United States of America. But then United Nations is an ideal thing and ideals don’t real exist. UN just aspires and to aspire is wonderful, to fail in duty is not but then it’s not a sin. The sin is to not to even go about one’s duty and wash the dirty laundry of someone else.

Even then we welcome UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in Pakistan. He has already been given a gift by the forces of darkness, and now Moon has one more thing to condemn. According to the UN spokesperson the secretary-general was deeply distressed to learn about the attack on two UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) workers today in Quetta, Pakistan, that took the life of Syed Hashim and resulted in the apparent abduction of John Solecki.

That should be enough to tell Moon about the ground realities in Pakistan. Due to the on going war on terror in Afghanistan and in the FATA and Swat region of Pakistan sanctioned by the United Nations and supervised by the United States, the whole region is unsafe and insecure. If that is the level of security for the UN officials then Moon should know about the plight of common people of Pakistan and Afghanistan. War, military operations, drone attacks, and suicide bombings have set the region on fire and adds up to another colossal failure of United Nations.

Pakistani authorities are giving news to the people that Ban Ki Moon will announce a commission which will investigate the assassination of late Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. That is ridiculous and that is the most treacherous thing to say, if there is any. What could UN commission do? No one believes that UN commission would be able to track down and apprehend the perpetrators of the henoius crime. Pakistan could very well do that investigation which PPP and Zardari are not serious and interested about.

Instead of asking probe into Benazir slaying, Pakistan should ask Ban Ki Moon to become a ‘man’ and do something about the people of FATA and Swat. Moon must play his role to halt the US drone attacks and for ending the war in the area. He must do something to eliminate the miseries of people, which he so boasts about. Merely visiting countries and issuing statements and making speeches and condemning things doesn’t achieve anything.

You should ask Pakistanis “”to become a ‘man’ and do something about the people of FATA and Swat”".

  5. Brig,

Good to see something different from you.

One thing I have been asking fro sometime now to all the people writing on this blog and Pakistani people in general, why do you need someone to do something for you? Why cant you rise up to the occasion and do something for yourself? The money you received form IMF, the money that you received from US for war on terror, the money that you received from Saudi, the money you received from China, and from others, where is it? What is being done with that money? Why is it not used for development of infrastructure, health care for people, education for children? You guys need to ask these questions to the people in charge, make them accountable.

This the same problem India is also facing no one can be made accountable for anything that happens. After Mumbai incident, people were angry with the politicians, security personnel, and whole lot of people who should protect the people of this country, but the problem was the same who is accountable for what, is the question. Politicians who were made to resign and who resigned themselves, made statements to show that they are doing this to show their accountability, but in fact, it was their failure.

The same thing is happening in Pakistan, the civilian government is not popular, they are not able to take hold of things, the army and others are playing foul games they are not helping them.

As per the editorials in Pakistani news papers, these extremists are blowing up schools in night during curfew, now one needs to ask questions here, how come they go unnoticed? What are the security forces doing during that time? When they know that the extremists are targeting schools why are the schools not watch and protected by security forces?

Also the drive against education by these extremists show that they don’t want people to learn and get educated, they want to make them dumb and with no future when they grow up and join one of the organizations of the extremists.

This is the failure of Pakistani government since the time they got independence from Britishers. They could have tried to get people from these regions of FATA, SWAT, and NWFP into the main line. They could have provided them with health care, educational facilities, and lot of other things which would have changed their life for ever. This was not done and still it is not being done with seriousness.

The dream with which Jinnah and others with him who wanted to create a country for Muslims, which will be a prosperous, growing and peaceful country was broken and destroyed long back. The basis for forming this country was not what it claims now.

Pakistan is in trouble and the people are not seeing the problem they are facing the economic problem can be dealt with later also, but the main and major problem is of the militants who are taking over Pakistan and taking it into dark age.

The latest news that is flashing on the internet is that Pakistani Taliban kidnapped 29 paramilitary soldiers and policemen. People need to look at this seriously. Protest marches, slogan, posters, and other things that are happening outside Pakistan are taking priority, which should not be given priority. People need to unite to fight against these extremists, rather than for showing sympathy to Muslims in other country, or for fight against India.

Your view on this will appreciated Brig.

  6. Why should Pak look over its shoulders to others to solve its own problems?

Be it Benazir probe or the US’ drones attak in Swat or its own war on terror or any other problem, I think it is high time for Pak to take the due responsibility for whatever is happening inside Pak. Thereafter, Pak - govt, army, ISI, civilians, etc - should then act & weed out the problems as identified.

Why should Pak look to others & issue/write rhetorical statements as mentioned in the article about th UN general secretary becoming a “man” etc ?

Do what you want to do to eradicate the problems.

Its your country. Its your problem. Use your own resources to solve the problems. Its your duty to solve them in your own interest.

    Good luck.
    :-)

  7. Adi, thanks for your thoughtful analysis. Well, I agree on most of the points but then you become the mouthpiece of Indian propaganda where I have no choice but to disagree. Well Pakistan made blunders in restive areas, no doubt about that. War in Afghanistan with Russia was not Pakistan’s choice. This on going war is not our choice. Our weakness is evident but then for us to become weak against Russian and US aggressions is due to the omni-present Indian aggression on our East.

If only India makes Eastern borders free of worry for Pakistan, the militancy and terrorism would die in days as India wouldnt’ have any interest in Balochistan, FATA and Swat then. In very good faith, and with confirmed reports I would humbly confirm you that Pakistan has solid evidences about RAW involvement in Swat and Balochistan, but due to US pressure Pakistan is unable to make it public.

  8. Dear Junaid Zaman,

According to you, RAW is involved in Swat(not my opinion).

    My question:

What abt ISI involvement in kashmir??

Surely you cannot expect India to give ISI a free hand…….can you??

  9. Kashmir is disputed, whereas Swat is not. Comparing Swat with Kashmir is like comparing onions with snowflakes.

  10. Brig,

Why was war in Afghanistan not a choice of Pakistan? You could have very well said no to it.

Also the eastern border with India can remain peaceful, only if Pakistan proves its seriousness on the issue of extremists and militants. When you say militants in Kashmir are freedom fighters and not militants, and you will support their cause, then in that case why are you fighting the Pakistan Taliban, they are your own people who want to govern a part of Pakistan and the Taliban from Afghanistan as they are also fighting US forces to free their country. Will you support Taliban against the war with US and NATO forces? They are also fighting for their country, and you did support them while war against Russians.

    Your views appreciated Brig.

  11. India DONT consider any Kashmir as disputed.

Therefore india reserves the right to take every possible step to prevent India’s enemies.

  12. Adi

the topic of extremism and militancy is not relevant to this issue raised here, but the seriousness you are talking about is much need from Indian side also. Look we know who are active in our western borders and in swat or in Afghanistan (against Pakistan) but we don’t weep. other than militancy indian government must put in to improve intelligence services and role of law engorcement agencies within her. the prospect of militancy and extremism is much more higher in India than Pakistan due to ‘Cast culture’. ‘Cast culture do also exist in Pakistan but not on religious grounds.

  13. Brigadier, Kashmir is disputed? HAHAHA! Why? Pakistani’s want Kashmir? LOL! You guy’s cant take care of your own country whatever is there now, what will you do with Kashmir? Turn it into another SWAT and FATA?

Atleast there is no chaos now in Kashmir and people are able to work and live peacefully and EVEN elect their own government. Why do you want Pakistani virus to affect them too?

  14. Farid,

I would disagree with you on the points mentioned.

The caste structure that you are talking about does exist in India but the impact of it is now reducing. What you see in the media is the hype that the political parties create for the purpose of vote bank and other political purposes.

As you rightly mentioned that there is no caste structure in Pakistan, but there is another problem in Pakistan which is on the religious front. The Sunni and Shia fight that happen frequently. Also the minorities that Pakistan has does not enjoy the status that was provided to them. In India at least the minorities have reservation in education and government jobs and few other areas (which is actually bad and is just for political benefit). We are trying to bring those guys to the same level as the other guys of the country are.

The weeping point that you have mentioned is something weird as the Taliban and other groups which we now call as terror groups were created by Pakistani army and ISI with the help of US during the Afghan war with Russians. One cant cry on the things that they themselves do.

On the point of India working on its intelligence agencies and all, the Indian government is working on those points. It will take some time but it will be done.

    Your views appreciated.

  15. President Asif A Zardari recently declared that he knows who are the killer of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto —— so or others in and around PPP circles. They know exactly who killed Her.

But it is matter of gathering of enough of courage to come out and say it clearly. Zardari may not name and shame any body. He wants that some body else should come up with the answer of this riddle like UNO investigation team and say that CIA has done it.

  16. Killers of Benazir - CIA
Terrorism in Pak - RAW / Mossad / KGB

Then what is JuD, LeT & Taliban - Freedom Fighters? Pakis….. wake up.
