Minor Police Torture in Public is Necessary in Pakistan
By Umer Toor • Mar 5th, 2010 • Category: Politics • 11 CommentsThose who are raising eyebrows over the video clips of torture by police on the criminals are either unaware of the ground realities in the country or they are just like the populous media which has nothing better to do these days. NRO is a dead horse, and the opposition and judiciary is also silent. Nothing to report for the media and so they are showing away this new fad.
The torture in the police station is highly condemnable, no doubt about that . This manner of torture is customary in all police stations across the country, and this primitive, inhuman style of torture continues under the nose of supervisory officers, including member of the elite Police Service of Pakistan.
But minor chittrol outside the police stations is a public demand. People who do street crimes, or who tease the women or those who are involved in petty theft are punished by police at the spot upon the demand of the public and these petty criminals are not sent to jail and are released after some chittars. Jails in Pakistan are nurseries for the crimes, and a petty criminal becomes either a murderer or high class robber after spending sometime in the jail.
The chemistry of the rural areas and towns is very different, and people there prefer their police to do the deed at the spot. It is the social need of these areas to get the petty criminals spanked in public by police.

It is good to see another angle, that is realistic as well, regarding this issue.
you call the video ‘minor chittrol’….what if that happened to you ????…..wakeup buddy and open your eyes !
May be that minor chitrol is also good for the petty criminals, who otherwise would have to wait for years for the proper beginning of their trial, and then wait another few years for the verdict, and then spend sometime in jail. Why not have few spanking hands than spending major portion of their youth in jail?
You gotta point there.
Every body is innocent till proven guilty. You call this minor chhutrol. This shows your sadistic mentality and those who like watching it. Police should do its duty properly as per books. THis is what is needed. We need RULE OF LAW only nothing more nothing less. Proper prosecution and Investigation that is it. THere is nothing major or minor. Crime is a crime even committed by Police.
I completely disagree with the thought. The argument that small level culprits should get their punishment as the court system is slow and somewhat unjust in our country, only points to the flaws we have in our system. This does not mean that to cover one flaw you give an opportunity to another department to exploit basic human rights of a free and just trial.
@ Umer
Please explain why public flogging is necessary in Pakistan ?
I don’t think that we are so naïve to watch this cruelty in public and then learn a lesson from it.
@ Gauhar ….. I agree with you.
Yes i also wana know the explaination
Well the brutal and sadistic torture and the public humiliation that those people have been put through cannot be justified. However if those people were or were not guilty it was the duty of the police to perform their part and bring the culprit to justice thats what they are paid for. witnessing the public torture culture prevailing in pakistan it aint far when people would torture and kill their rivals for property or money in the name of justice.
And for the writer well sir what else can we expect when people like u even stand in support for these shameful acts. How different are u from those illiterate people standing at the torture scene supporting and enjoying the beatings.
@ pakistani WELL SAID BRO.
