Mianwali Should Be Watched Out for Hiding Terrorists

By Mohsin Sehgal • Jun 16th, 2009 • Category: Politics • 3 Comments

Taliban are running away in all the directions from the Swat and even from the FATA. The operation in the Malakand Agency is now almost concluded and final touches are being given. Operation in the Waziristan Agency is the next, while in Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber and Kurram Agency are almost in the control of the security forces.

Taliban are not really going to Afghanistan, as US and NATO are waiting there for them, but above it, these Taliban don’t have any interest in the America or NATO, rather they have tasted power in Swat, and they want to have it once again in anywhere in the Pakistan. Dera Ismail Khan, Tank and Hangu areas are also in the eyes of security forces, but now it seems that the terrorists are trying to take foothold in the remote areas of Punjab, especially those which are near to the agencies.

Mianwali is one of them. It’s near to the North Waziristan and its hill borders with the Karak area of NWFP which is just alongside with the FATA. In just previous weeks, security forces have arrested more than dozens of the runaway terrorists from the Mianwali. Mianwali is one of the remotest areas of the Pakistan with very low literacy rate, low development and very conservative society. People of Mianwali must protect their areas. They should learn lesson from the IDPs of the Swat.

  1. When you say “it seems that”… do you have some facts to back up your claims, or is this site turning into pakspeculator?

  2. Seraiki belt is the hotbed for the backwardness, and hence easy target for the terrorists to get recruitment and hideouts.

  3. @Maria Perhaps, but so is 50% of the country - all targets are easy targets for terrorists, with madrassas all around - and as far as hideouts go, it is much easier to hide in, say, karachi or lahore. So my question was, why Mianwali specifically?
