Media Anchors Should Be Controlled by Government
By Altaf Khan • Oct 30th, 2009 • Category: Politics • 8 CommentsAll the private media channels including GEO, ARYONEWORLD, Express, AAJ, DAWN and others have become mouth pieces of terrorists.
Just switch on any TV. You hear:
- A Blast has been heard in Peshawar.
- Then for five minutes it flashes.
- Then live coverage starts from the blast spot.
- They broadcast dead bodies, crying people, blood, and injured people.
- They telecast live collapsing of buildings, and they show running terrified people.
- They even telecast the live group attacks, and they literally help the master minds of terrorists to manage the attack.
Enough of the media independence. This so called media freedom has only filled the pockets of media anchorpersons and they have made them a celebrity of sensationalism. Its good that the standing committee of parliament has taken notice of media terrorism, and they must control the media anchors who are harming the security and integrity of the Pakistan. Qamaruzzaman Kaira is right when he directs the media to behave.

BAN THEM ALL! !!! NOW
Are they with US or with THEM means with TERRORIST?
Just enact a new law, which I think they are considering, where they can’t broadcast the current war on terror, which will hopeful stop all this stupid non-sense of media which all it is doing is fanning the extremism.
These scenes are part of our real life by the grace of our ex and present rulers.
So why people are afraid of realities.
Our major cities have been turned as security barracks.
Each time you and your vehicle is searched thorough when ever you try to enter any specific premises for normal routine jobs.
Ever where security guards with loaded weapons aiming at you are showing you insecurities of minds around you,.
This is our present life in our country.
You want to see the live banquets from PM or president house to feel that how peaceful and contently is our rulers’ life styles.
This time is reminding us the same state when Musharraf and his team were angry on public who were showing anger to him via air .The only way to haunt our rulers other wise all are mentally living thousand miles away from their voters.
Musharraf last era was just like that, extreme bloodshed on our streets, army was sent to swat, US was being contacted again and again to satisfy her arrogant suspicion.
Zardari govt is taking its last breathes and trying to squeeze the emotions of hate left in the minds of public therefore such actions are being planned .
Go ahead , try to implement, now public and media are much trained for fearless response.
Media along with the press is an important pillar of democracy. Gag order for the media will work against the stability & interests of any democratic country & amounts to dictatorial high headedness. Ergo, media should not be banned.
They are merely covering the acts of terrorism happening on the ground zero. They are a reflection of the event, not the event itself. By closing one’s eyes, day doesnt become night, however wishful thinking one may resort to. Ostrich mentality ensures that one remains an ostrich. Media’s “sensational” coverage, however outrageous, at least pricks our conscience & incites anger in us. That anger is good. It should be channelised into positive, firm & resolute actions on ground to weed out terrorism in Pakistan. Hence, media should not be banned.
Rather, media persons being sane, sensible & educated, should control their emotive outbursts when covering such events. They should keep the sensibilities in mind & convey the true picture sans any bias or distortion. Tall order, but scalable.
The onus is on them.
So you mean to say when blast occurs Tv channels should flash “a flower has grown at the backyard lawn of Zardari ?”
Controlling anchors and live coverage is two different things. I do agree with you that there should be curbs on live coverage of terrorist attacks. Not only does this coverage help the perpetrators but it is causing a lot of anxiety and stress in the society and puts the vulnerable (children, already sick citizens) specially in harm’s way.
One more thing I noticed whenever there is an arrest in criminal cases media is let to talk to the would be defense, this is totally unacceptable as at that point in time we don’t know anything about the case and it effects the outcome of any possible court proceedings so in this case media is behaving badly. Media can talk to the police as they are impartial at that stage whose job is to implement the rule of law. No one from media should be allowed to film the accused like I saw the other day someone who was accused of rape on live TV with blackened face. If the case is not true then such a person loses his freedom to live as our society is extremely judgmental. These things disturb then norms of the society. Also some television channels insult the already suffering by making them pose for the cameras and on some channels they don’t even cover the face of the rape victims. So they too should pay attention to how it is going to impact the persons involved.
Shame on u altaf,i ask government to press the media by making laws but no anchor will admit it nor any channel because we have seen credibility of government.
