Long, Wide, Power March : Stop If You Can

By Rohail Butt • Mar 13th, 2009 • Category: Politics, Worth A Second Look • 10 Comments

Pakistan People Party (PPP) leaders Safdar Abbas, Naheed Khan, Anwar Baig, Raza Rabbani and host of others are shocked at what is happening during the era of PPP in the country. The so-called democracy is being brutally raped by the rulers and though Pakistan is at the crossroads, we are leading towards chaos and turmoil.

To say Pakistan is a mass of contradictions is an understatement. Here the same politiicans who fight for the judiicary in opposition, start persecuting the judiciary when in power. The same chief justice who once remain hero for the rulers when they were down and out has now become a villian and a trouble. These contradictions are endemic. You can’t pick just one scab and pray the pox melt away.

Massive and threatening dark clouds that are hovering over our destiny. Our fortunes are about to be dipped to an unfathomable level of depression and anxiety. We are drawing towards the Long March of lawyers, political parties and civil society. Defining moments are just round the corner. Clash of the ideas is on the cards.

History has got the habit to repeat itself time and again. It is repeating itself once again and that very soon. It seems that the Musharraf show has started once again. The same baton-charge, tear gas, arrests, and clampdowns and the same tactics to leash the public wrath.

Lawyers’ campaign for the restoration of November 2, 2007 judiciary, interlinked with the media coverage of current events and the whole show powered by the street power of PML(N), Jamat-e-Islami, Tehreek-e-Insaaf, Jamiat-e-Ahl-e-Hadees and others is unstoppable now. They are the last ray of hope for the Pakistan. If we Pakistanis want to survive in the cluster of nations and if we wnat to have true independence and just society with equal opportunities for everyone from Karachi to Khyber and from Kohat to Quetta and from Bhimber to Khunjrab, then we have to go with the Long March and we have to sit in front of the constitution avenue.

  1. The president has to step down in order to restore rule of law, justice and equity.

  2. Yesterday I participated in a rally organized by civil society.Very surprise to see that majority of PPP workers were there, chanting slogans against zardari and CO for his wrong doings in state politics.People are very angry and even very hurt. They had lot of expectation with this PPP govt but all goes waste and we have come to state where we were 20 years before. Now PPP workers are seriously realizing that zardari and co has hijacked this party and its true spirit and principles are being distorted by NRO group.
Media is playing extraordinary role to strengthen this movement and it is the entity that is now creating real change on our streets.

  3. good input Nazia

  4. Nazia,
    Welcome back

PPP never imagined or expected Mr. Zardari as president of Pakistan, It came sa surprise to them, like all others. Anyway to go. Thanks for sharing your opinion, Mohtarma, bais e sade Ehtram Janat muqam, dozaq Haram

its not surprise but it is a shock and now continuation of aftershocks after his induction in president house.
In second day of demonstration of civil society again zardari and his NRO team was badly abused by people.Safdar and Naheed support to lawyer’s movement is giving fuel to PPP workers.Today number of common people increased.144 sanction was again violated in this event but Islamabad police didnt interfere in people’s aggressive mood and let people to spit their anger on president of Islamic republic of Pakistan.

  6. Our present government is a democratically elected popular government, elected by 170 million people of Pakistan. These criminals like Iftikar Chaudhry, Aitzaz Ahsan etc are non elected elements, losers, who only want to de-rail democracy in our country through stupid and violent moves like long march.

THE PEOPLE OF PAKISTAN ARE LEAST CONCERNED ABOUT LONG MARCH OR THE EXPELLED CHAUDHRY JUSTICE IFTIKAR. WE DON’T WANT A FRAUD LIKE IFTIKHAR CHAUDHRY IN OUR SUPREME JUDICIARY AGAIN. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

THSESE CRIMINAL LAWYERS WHO HAVE PARALYSED OUR NATIONAL ECONOMY FOR TWO YEARS SHOULD GO TO HELL.

INSTEAD OF USING TEAR GAS, THE POLICE SHOULD BETTER SPRAY POISON GAS ON THESE BLOODY TRAITORS, CRIMINAL LAWYERS.

InshaAllah these traitor long marcher lawyers will never be able to derail democracy through their nonsense, disruptive and violent moves.

Government must put Iftikhar Chaudhry, Aitzaz Ahsan, Imran Khan etc behind bars, try them for treason and should hang them in the streets like cattle and the bodies of these traitor criminal lawyers should be dragged in the streets. After all, threatening a democratically elected government is high treason and the traitors should be punished immediately.

The orders of our President to ban a few tv channels, that were involved in spreading the culture of hatred and violence, are really appreciable. Majority of Pakistanis were sick of these Mafia-like pseudo- journalists, whom Governor Punjab rightly called Daddoos (Frogs). These daddoo pseudo-journalists used to speak poisonously all day on our tv screens. It is really great work on part of our elected government to put a check on these pseudo-journalists

    LONG LIVE PRESIDENT ZARDARI!
    LONG LIVE DEMOCRACY!
    LONG LIVE PAKISTAN

ALL PATRIOTIC PAKISTANIS ARE PROUD OF OUR DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED PPP GOVERNMENT!

  7. EXCELLENT WORK PUNJAB POLICE…..BEAT THE HELL OUT OF THESE GANGS OF CRIMINAL LAWYERS……SPRAY POISON GAS ON THESE CRIMINAL LAWYERS

  8. 3rd consecutive day of violation of 144 sec in Islamabad by civil society. This demonstration is now gaining its momentum. It was a good surprise to see old age groups including women too are coming for showing their anger to zardari raj.Police as usual didnt interfere in their aggressive moods and silently listened comments on president’s character coming from PPP backed activists

  9. quick rejoinder to the first couple of lines of your article… yes, once in opposition they support the judiciary.. we all remember Sharif dismissing a CJ don’t we? all this for one man, who sits in a building where only very rarely do any average cases make it? over 90% judges restored to maintain some semblance of sanity.. but all this havoc, for one judge? Sharif has smartly played his card, by sidiing with a cause that can provoke people and pull them out to the roads.. because had it not been for this camoflauge of “justice” and fooling the nation once again, Sharif would’ve never pulled out anyone…

  10. 4the day of mobilizations of civil society is ended successfully and now people are ready for tomorrow’s Dharna.Police as usual stayed in low profile and some how looked fatigued and tired,I think police is one of pathetic entity of our system at this moment. In one side they are forcing to abide the most unwanted orders and on the other side they are hearing humiliating and degraded taunts like dogs of rehman and zardai in their line of duty.
    Khadija
surely people want the restoration of CJP as their primary demand. It is a symbol of gesture for him and message to all such high ranking personalities that they will support them if they will follow them support them and stand firmly behind them if they will follow rule of law.The other major requirement of this long march is to nullify the action of 3 rd nov, and punish a dictator for his wrong doings. It is not weak zardari who could be stubborn upto such an extent, but behind him its our army mafia who is strongly reacting against people’s power to save their paper lion musharf from people’s justice.Zardari is just acting as their shield to enjoy the president status as per deal made between PPP and army.
