Long March Yields : Justice Gets Justice

By Salman Mugsi • Mar 16th, 2009 • Category: Politics, Worth A Second Look • 47 Comments

A  unique blend of external and internal pressure has compelled the government of Pakistan People’s Party to bow in front of the popular aspirations of the Pakistani people. The major role was played by the chief of army staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kiyani to force Asif Ali Zardari to part with his ego.

Had the PPP government restored the chief justice before all this miasma, it would have given lots and lots and lots of strength and lasting benefits to the PPP. Now after eating 100 onions and receiving 100 shoes on its face, the government has restored the chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary. Irreparable damage has been done to the credibility of the President Asif Ali Zardari and his coterie.

The trio of Asif Ali Zardari, Salman Taseer and Rehman Malik has been thoroughly and consummately defeated. Their inflated and blind egos have been punctured with relish by the resounding and thudding march of people starting from Lahore. Police tried to stop the marchers with tear gas and batons but chased off by the public power. After failing in suppressing the agitation through the coercive apparatus of the state, General Ashfaq Kiyani showed stick to Zardari and Zardari after some yelping surrendered.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary must not deter from reopening the cases regarding notorious NRO, missing people, and the steel mills case. He should also take suo moto notice of wrongs done by the Pervez Musharraf and he must do some practical measures to get the justice speedily to the doorsteps of people.

Now as the chief justice is all set to join the apex court, he is also carrying mountains of hopes, dreams, aspirations and promises. He has not been restored as a result of some sort of deal. He has become chief justice of Pakistan once again because for two years lawyers, political workers, civil society and countless people have given countless sacrifices. He is the symbol of supremacy of constitution and rule of law in Pakistan. His every movement will be watched, his every decision will be rigorously and meticulously sliced and diced.

The pressure of people has also compeled to the Zardari regime to call back the governor Salman Taseer, who has proved a blunderous curse to the province. The reinstatement of Shahbaz Sharif as the chief minister and the restoration of PML(N) government has also have a relieving effect throughout Pakitan. Now everyone should work jointly and above party and petty politics for the peace and progress in Pakistan.

  1. Will justice get justice or not only time will tell. I hope that it is not going to be one of those promises of Zardari which are made only to breake.

  2. Undermining the mandate of the majority of people through violence shows how far the Sharifs can go in pursuit of their personal goals. What good have Sharifs and their front man Ex Justice Iftikhar done for the country, other than sowing seeds of ethnic tension? They have caused dammage, worth millions of dollars to our already failing economy, only for the cause of coming into power. What interest do the Sharifs have in welfare of Pakistan? All of Sharif’s capital is in foreign lands, all their investments are in UK, USA and Saudi Arabia and they don’t even like to invest billions of their dollars in Pakistan, that could create thousands of jobs for the poor of Pakistan. So what are they doing in Pakistan? They only want to come into power once more so that they can loot and plunder our national wealth.

Remember when Sharifs stormed the Supreme cout in 1997. Where was the justice movement then? No one remembers how Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah was unconstitutionally dismissed by the Sharifs. Why? Because Sajjad Ali Shah was a Sindhi?

It is ironic that those who lead the long march today have themselves in the past been the greatest offenders of the law of the land.

Here’s a brief look at the cast of today’s justice movement drama:

Sharifs: Convicted of Hijacking(1999), Murder(Sabzazar Case) contempt of Supreme Court(1997 Storming of Supreme Court by their goons). Looted Millions of dollars, by gettin loans from Pakistani banks and then got them written off.

Qazi and his Jamat Islami: Hypocrites, Liars, Murderers and terrorists. His ghunda Jamiat still terrorizes institutions like Punjab University. Covertly supports Taliban and Alqaeda. Responsible for introducing Klashankov culture in Pakistan during Zia dictatorship. His party has never even won 1% of the electoral votes anywhere in Pakistan and yet he and his extremist party has always strived to gain unseat elected government through violence, ghunda-gardi, and terrorism. Qazi’s son and immediate family members are enjoying life in America, whereas he here preaches violence against the US. Such a terrorist he is.

Imran Khan: A playboy ‘Zani’, who has several illegitimate children and on the other hand, he supports the talibanisation of Pakistan. A loser and a big liar.

And PAK SPECTATOR should better change its name to PUNJAB SPECTATOR as it is a blog that is spilling poison against Sindh and Sindhi leaders.

  3. Adeel Tajammal you are forgetting something here. Only NRO has saved Zardari convictions in many cases. Why not shed some light on Zardari as well . What Zardari has been forced to do now, he could have done that long time ago without all this long march. He chose not to do that. Can you justify that?

  4. Congratulations to all who participated and gave their efforts to this movement.Lets pray that this would result as per expectation .Rule of law principle will now be our milestone for our future goals as a nation.Only one hurdle is crossed, till lot of more to be done.

  5. We are a proud nation today !

Hats off to the Lawyers, and all common Paksitanis who stood up for themselves …

Poor players like Maulana Fazul Rehman and Altaf Hussain were also exposed this time …

Now advice to Justice Chaudhrry is with the famous quote by a great man !

” with great power, comes great responsibilty”

    Ben Parker, Spiderman’s uncle

  6. congratulations Pakistan

  7. Zardari Government Scared
    Pakistan Chief Justice Reinstated

To all patriot faithful PAKISTANIS and believers in Justice and Peace
Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Chaudhary must reopen the cases of notorious NRO

Heartiest Congratulations, really pleased with outcome of struggle so far, its only the beginning not the end, we have a long way to go, future demands great sacrifices and struggle, determination with faith , purpose of life, and highest goals marked as achievements for our final destination. Our ultimate goal is build Pakistan, Pakistan as we declare it, under Allah’s protection, according the laws our faith, and pride to our Muslim Ummah and International Community.

    Blessed be the sacred land,
    Happy be the bounteous realm,
Symbol of high resolve, Land of Pakistan.
Blessed be thou citadel of faith.
The Order of this Sacred Land
is the might of the brotherhood of the people.
May the nation, the country, and the State
    Shine in glory everlasting.
Blessed be the goal of our ambition.
This flag of the Crescent and the Star

Interpreter of our past, glory of our present,
    Inspiration of our future,
    Symbol of Almighty’s protection

Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar M. Chaudhary must reopen the cases regarding notorious NRO, missing people.

This time in history making, we the believers promise; O land of pure, No more excuses, United we will work, and work at our best, to make Pakistan The one of the greatest country on earth, as our fore fathers us and our children always, wanted dreamed and looking forward. So help us God.

  8. Thats a great job Pakistan.

    Well done Pakistanis.

Now a similar movement against religious extremism and Taliban are needed.

These two are far far bigger threat for Pakistan than Zardari ever can be.

  9. Fools Paradise is the term to describe the place where all those dwell who think Iftikhar Chaudhry is a newborn Robin Hood of sorts. The truth is that his return is not going to make much difference to lives of ordinary people of Pakistan. Instead, it is going to make matters worse.

Please do not forget that it was Iftikhar Chaudhry who as Chief Justice freed dangerous terrorists responsible for Lal Masjid incident. Iftikhar Chaudhry is in fact an extremist, terrorist sympathizer who may now try to hamper the war against terrorism through notorious suo-moto actions he used to take in the past. And this certainly is not a good omen for our country. In the past, he transgressed and started meddling in the day to day affairs of Sabzi Mandi, Itwar Bazaar, Juma Bazaars, Traffic Police and all sorts of things which are not the domain of a Supreme Court. But let’s hope that this time he doesn’t turn our Supreme Court into a Sabzi Mandi again.

Lets hope for the best and let’s pray that our fears don’t come true once more. The President, Prime Minister and the PPP government have lived up to their promises which reflects their democratic thinking.

    LONG LIVE PPP!
    LONG LIVE PRESIDENT ZARDARI!
LONG LIVE DEMOCRACY AND LONG LIVE PAKISTAN!

  10. Incredible Indian:
You’re right! A similar movement to curb extremism and terrorism is now a necessity.

EXTREMISM AND TERRORISM ARE THE GREATEST THREATS THAT OUR COUNTRY FACES!

  11. Saeed Ahmed: it is good that CJ is restored however he should not take confrontational path with President Zardari. Our country cannot afford another confrontation. We’ve had enough now. Justice Iftkhar should do his work and the President should do his work.

  12. LETS START A MOVEMENT AGAINST TERRORISM AND EXTREMISM NOW!

LETS START A MOVEMENT FOR THE GOAL OF A FREE, LIBERAL, SECULAR AND DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY IN PAKISTAN!

LETS THROW OUT ALL THE EXTREMIST MULLAHS AND SECTARIAN TERRORISTS!

LETS START A MOVEMENT TO STOP TALIBANISATION OF PAKISTAN!

  13. Nadia
You are right, Chief Justice must do what is needed most, “The Justice”
Confrontation is not good for PAKISTAN
    Khush raha karo
    Allah khush rakhay

  14. Danish
Kabhi chup bhi raha karo, Yeh hi Danishmandi hai.
    God bless you

  15. #12 Danish

“”"”"”"”"LETS START A MOVEMENT AGAINST TERRORISM AND EXTREMISM NOW!”"”"”"”"”"”"”

Thats the only way JINNAH’S DREAM COUNTRY can be achieved.

These right-wing elements are the real problems for all countries in this world.

    FIGHT THE RIGHT.

    .

  16. Incredible India:

I agree 100% with you. But still right wing can not be classified as extremists or terrorists, as long as they do not intend to impose their views on others and as long as they respect democracy.

So instead, fight the extremists and terrorists, be it Sword waving Hindu extremists who killed thousands of innocent Muslims in Gujrat, or be it Klashinkov carrying Taliban or Alqaeda extremists and terrorists who mercilessly kill so many each day.

I believe no religion preaches hatred. So lets fight all those who exploit religion to spread hate and terror. Believe me our SubContinent will be a much peaceful place, and may be some day we South Asians can be like the European Union, if we overcome these challenges of extremism on both sides.

  17. Saeed Ahmed Sahab: Don’t you agree with what I said in post # 12 ?

  18. Saeed Ahmed Sahab: Aap nay to pura Qoumi Tarani parh dala apnay 500 words kay comments main and you can’t even tolerate my 5 lines of wisdom in my comments #12…..

  19. A SECULAR PAKISTAN IS WHAT WE DESPERATELY NEED FOR OUR COUNTRY TO PROGRESS AND PROSPER! :-)

  20. Congrats guys on your achievement, but the work is half done. You have a long way ahead. There are still many more problems in Pakistan like education to masses, extremists, Taliban and other terror groups, and many more.

Pull up your socks and be ready other movements needs to be started soon.
