The deposed chief justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, the hope for the millions of Pakistan has aptly said that “The journey is thorny and lengthy and the time is short, but I believe the movement would be successful to achieve its objectives.” On the call of the justice, thousands of lawyers, civil society activists and people from all walks of life have started the long march from the city of Multan and they are steadily heading towards the city of Lahore, gaining strength and momentum.

The approach of the government of Pakistan People’s Party is still very much erratic and conflicting. Islamabad is once again depicting the scenes of the previous regime of PML0Q. Up to 150 containers, 200 large concrete blocks and a similar number of barbed wire rings are in place to secure the area. Three thousand police officials have been deployed to the area. The security plan is that if lawyers would dare to move towards either President House or the Parliament House, they will face baton charges and tear gas.

PPP and Musharraf both want to defeat the lawyers Long March for different yet similar purposes. PPP wants to deflate the Long March in order to prove that judges is a non issue and Musharraf want to see it failed just to remove the biggest thorn in his thigh and the biggest threat to his rule.

Journey has begun, and its just now a matter of time that it achieves what it promises; The Supremacy of Constitution.
