Lip Service
By Rai Azlan • Oct 16th, 2009 • Category: Politics • 2 CommentsThe KL Bill is something which is on the pinnacle of fame for last many weeks. A lot has been said and a lot have been debated. Some said that we will accept that we are a terrorist nation if we accept it and some said that the opponent of this bill is actually the opponent of Pakistan. Well to me such statement, the later one, is more stunning than the hilarious one.
I am sick of thinking and arguing about why can’t we live with out aid, why can’t we show trust over our own resources? And many other things. If a person like me can think such things than why can’t the people who have been elected by and from the population of 170 million. Every day new things come out with the tag of this K. Lofar Bill, while I am writing this I have just heard these words that this so called democracy is in danger due to this Bill.
Where are we heading a question with which I wake up each and every day, but even after so many years, well not so many, still the quest of this answer is on. Why is this bill so important? Just for the sake of money, if it is so than why don’t we just choose an honorable way? Why it is better, for us, to beg for this 1.5 billion after such terms rather than collecting 800 billion outstanding tax every year?
So many questions so many arguments and I am still sitting with no answer from any side. The leadership of this country called KLB its biggest achievement but now I can see the embarrassment in there camp though they will never accept it. But things are clear as even the cabinet seems to be divided over this issue. The finance minister, I m not a fan or follower of him regardless the fact that both of us are USTAD BHAI (it doesn’t mean that I am of his age), have been brave enough to say that he is ready to stand and rise voice about all the troublesome clauses.
By now I have come to know that our Smart Foreign Minister is in USA to convince them over the clauses, about which a few days back one of govt official said that Pakistanis don’t know English, and a clarification declaration has been added to the bill now which clarifies the clauses. And now I am again thinking wither to welcome this act or not. Well my vote is still, as always, with the option of returning it with bundle of thanks. Because to me this declaration is nothing more than lip service.
