Likeminded Legislator : New Name of Lota

By Ali Yar Khan • Sep 12th, 2008 • Category: Politics • No Responses

It was amusing to read a new term being coined in the print and electronic media “likeminded legislators.” Now that is something out of sheer genius and any kind of expediency can be embedded in such a utensil with ease and without any moral and legal obligations.

The minds of these mindless likeminded legislators change faster than the course of winds and these “Fasli Batairas” are found everywhere in Pakistan. The lotaism isn’t really confined to the individual member of the assemblies, it is also spanned at the party level. JUI-F, ANP, MQM has become likeminded with the PPP. PML-Q forward bloc is finding it’s mind aligned to the PML-N in Punjab, and with PPP in the center, and the mind mapping is the order of the day.

After the presidential polls amid mounting tension between the PPP and the PML-N in the Punjab, a severe encounter between PPP and PML-N is expected in the Pakistan’s most populous province and PML-N has started preparation for it, and on the other side Salman Taseer, the gaffe governor of Punjab is sharpening his arsenal and not sparing a moment to yap out at everything PML.

In the fight for Punjab, the lotas are going to play a very pivotal role. The members of the PML-Q Forward Bloc, also called the Ittehad Group has read the writing on the wall and they know that PML(N) is in power in Punjab, and that is why they are throwing Iftar dinners for PML-N leadership and giving statements more strong then the the likes of Ahsan Iqbal and law minister in Punjab.

Only if PPP stops tampering with the mandate of PML-N in Punjab, then PML-N won’t be forced to get the support of these lotas and will die their own death.
