Lahore Throne
By Ali Yar Khan • Jan 17th, 2010 • Category: Politics • 2 CommentsAt least the president of Pakistan People’s Party cannot win the throne of Lahore with the help of Salman Taseer and Raja Riaz or buying away lotas like Manzoor Wattoo, or offering carrots to the Chaudhrys of Gujrat or supporting Sheikh Rashid Ahmed in clandestine fashion.
Pakistan People’s Party is the largest party in Pakistan and has got every potential to gain popularity at short notice. But not with this current leadership and not with the way they are threatening everyone. The Post-NRO PPP has lost all credibility and it can only restore it’s prestige by bringing in the true leadership.
Punjab is the most crucial part of Pakistan and the government in Punjab means government in Islamabad. That is a controversial fact, but that is how it is right now. PPP was founded in Punjab and gained footings in Punjab with a thud during Zulfikar Bhutto, but then lost luster in the life of Bhutto senior. Benazir Bhutto failed to win back the resounding support in Punjab, though she maintained her step in this most populous province of Pakistan.
Now Zardari wants to not only fill in the shoes of Bhuttos but also wants to get bigger of them, so he wants to prove that he is the biggest leader ever produced by PPP by winning back Punjab. But that is only a pipedream and this adventure only will harm PPP.
