Kotkai, A Start in Operation Rah e Nijat

By Sher Ali • Oct 25th, 2009 • Category: Politics • 3 Comments

Abdul Samad Khan, 65, a farmer from the Spinkai Raghzai area, a freshly-turned IDP in the gritty town of Dera Ismail Khan says, “Fight hard, fight strong Pakistan. This is where the real war on terror is waged. I hope you throw down with serious might upon those who have bombed your civilians.”

The U.N. says some 155,000 civilians have fled the region. They have mostly congregated in the DI Khan, where things are in extreme mess. They all have felt relief as they hear about the success of their army in the Kotkai village. They have hope. The battle of Kotkai is important because it is the village of the head honcho of the terrorists, the Pakistani Taliban chief Hakimullah Mehsud and one of his top deputies, Qari Hussain.

Qari Hussain also used to run a training camp for suicide bombers in Kotkai, which has been destroyed by the army. Most of the houses were turned  bunkers by the terrorists and now in the custody of the army. Troops had begun ridding it of land mines and roadside bombs.

Now the next target is Sararogha.

  1. You are sending IDPs toward DI khan which is already a center of extremism for last 5 years. It is a turbulent area and Jui F is mainly responsible for all this mess who once had provided local man power to ISI camps located in remote areas of DI khan.
So what we would secure by doing so is not being judged by our minds.
Why Sarghoda not Quetta, Bhawalpur, RY khan are included on hit list of army for her operation clean up.try to read the views on BBC urdu service about this operation and get the real picture other than emotional dialogs.

  2. Hi Sher ali,
Kotkai was captured by Pakistani army in the first wave of operation. But the TTP recaptured it from Army. But after 5 days of fighting Pakistani army has recaptured it.
What mazes me a Militaryman is that the TTP inspite of giving away complete Air supriority to Pakistani army and Drone intelligence, suprior weapons of pakistani army is able to recapture it once and it took nearly 5 days to evict them.

  3. Johanne
There is nothing to amaze as TTPs are robinson crusies of this land for many generations.
Our army men even never went there for any kind of military exercises.
they don’t need any kind of ground and aerial intelligence to capture their land which is like lap of mother for them.
It is our army that took their land with the help of technology but as per history this can not be long lasting and I am highly afraid of human losses that we might face in coming days. Our junior officers, jcos and soldiers are thrown in this death valley for dying only.
