Kidnapping of UNHCR Head John Solecki in Quetta

By Dr. Hassan Isfahani • Feb 5th, 2009 • Category: Politics • No Responses

When the government will wake up? This is the most appropriate time for them to stir-up as a US national and provincial head of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) has been kidnapped. Pakistanis die, get kidnapped and looted and harrassed routinely in the Balochistan, but that is not the big deal for our high-ups, but kidnapping of a US national is something which should jolt them out of their slumber.

At least Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Muhammad Aslam Raisani got active at last after this abduction and at once returned to Quetta from Islamabad. The chief minister summoned high-ups of the home department and police and directed them to take tough security measures to improve law and order situation in the province.

It takes one US national to wakeup the chief minister and now one wonders at what it takes to rouse the whole authority in the restive Balochistan.
