Kerry-Lugar Bill, Not a Surrender
By Guest Blogger • Oct 8th, 2009 • Category: Politics • 5 CommentsWith regard to the Kerry-Lugar Bill, I have failed to find anything which runs counter to the national interest of the two countries. The conditions embodied in the said legislation, including the ones relating to democracy, non-proliferation, war on terror, civilian supremacy and monitoring facilities, do not militate against the interest of Pakistan.
America has traditionally backed military supremacy in Pakistan since its creation. Now, if it has realised that this was a mistake and has finally reached the much-delayed conclusion that democracy in Pakistan is in the mutual interest of both nations and the world at large then the bill is a good development for US-Pakistan relations.
Ambassador Hussain Haqqani in Washington and Farahnaz Ispahani in Islamabad in their statements have made a correct assessment of Kerry-Lugar. This is the first time that the US has recognised the value of socio-economic development as contrasted with building the military muscle of Pakistan to the enormous detriment of the people. Kerry-Lugar may not be an ideal piece of legislation but it is the best we can hope to get under the current circumstances.

Surely does not come in account of surrender as sometime surrender sometime happens after fratricide and endurance and this is just a modern and civilized version of slavery.
It is surprise that this time its projection in media and parliament is more than normal standard procedures.

ميں نے بل کا مسودہ نہيں پڑا اس ليے معلوم نہيں کہ کيا غلط ہے اس ميں ليکن ميں نے ابھی بی بی سی اردو پر ايک تجزياتی رپورٹ پڑھی جس ميں بتايا ہے کہ يہ پہلی بار ہو رہا ہے کہ امدادی پيکيج ڈيل کسی سويلين حکومت سے ہو رہی ہے اس سے پہلے يہ کشکول فوج کے ہاتھ ميں تھا۔ جب ميں نے يہ پڑھا تو مجھے سمجھ آگيا کہ فوج کو کيوں تحفظات ہيں اور ہونا بھی چاہيئں۔ اگر يہ کشکول واپس دے ديا گيا تو فوج کے ہی نہيں سب کے تحفظات ختم ہو جائيں گے۔ ن ليگ کا کردار صرف يہ ہے کہ دور بيٹھ کر ہر ايشو پر بس پوائنٹ اسکور کرتے رہو۔
