Joining the Long March of Lawyers
By Dr. Hassan Isfahani • Jun 11th, 2008 • Category: Politics • One ResponseFor me, taking part in the Long March by the lawyers is not just for the reinstatement of the judiciary, rather it means much more for me. I do want to see the deposed chief justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhary restored, and I want to see them restored with no strings attached in full bloom.
I also want to see that justice prevail in the country from Karachi to Khyber. I want to see the police leashed and I want to see the missing people coming back, and I want to see justice done in the issues of Lal Masjid, Kargil, Dr. Qadeer Khan, Load Shedding, Hoarding, Unemployment, and also all the social evils prevailing in the country.
I would participate in the long march of the lawyers to pledge my solidarity with the forces of change who are genuinely working against the forces of status quo. I seriously understand that the time has come to sift the bad from the good. It’s time that we give ourselves our identity back. It’s time that we give the elected institutions of parliament the utmost supremacy. I would be in the long march to reinforce my vote given on 18th February.
I would dance to the specially written song of “jeeway jeeway Iftikhar, adliya ki azadi ho gi, judges hongey bahal aur vukala sabhi azad hon gey” (judiciary will be free, judges will be reinstated, lawyers will be free).

Dr hasan in a very simple manner has opened his feelings for this lawyers movement and it no doubt reflects the feelings of middle and literate class that why we are backing this movement. Before 2006 we are really not interested in any kind of judicial system but no doubt poor policies of govts were being cursed on streets. In this year different type news has started coming out that were related to the cases of poor people who were getting justice from supreme court owing to the direct efforts of CJP.Then construction of high rise buildings on public parks by some influential people were stopped by Court had again given us surpised happiness.Other cases like cutting of trees on Lahore canal or cases of missing people also showed some surprise change in our judicial system.I also read that CJP had written a serious letter to US ambassador about their humilitiating behaviour in granting US visas to ordinary people.Even he tore his paper and invitation letter from US courts at the spot and even refused to go to US even the apology was granted to him thru US ambassador.
Then the case of steel mill had come out.At this stage I asked the people who is that man behind such drastic revolutanry acts of justice. This moment I heard the name of ifitkhar ahmed and till that time now I consider him as a honourable character of my generation who had justified his position and powers and surely he has set an example of standing alone with the power of law against a military ruler .
