Jamat ud Dawa and the Image of Islam

By Kiran Ali • Dec 12th, 2008 • Category: Politics • 15 Comments

Another front page story of terrorism and a wave of questions coming our way. Islamic political parties through out the world must learn a lesson from this that they are under a continuous attack of image tarnishing. They have been projected in front of this world as demons for quite some time now and none of our world leaders has come up with a solution based on ground realities.

I think that the best example to turn towards in this regard is the Hezbollah , an extremely organized and mainstream political party that defeated all the charges of terrorism not only through it’s resistance wing but also through it’s social welfare handling.

There is therefore a need to become more organized and meaningfully involved in government and politics so that Islamic Political Parties do not become a prey so easily.

Jamat ud Dawa must know that we are looking forward for an example of political Islam. We are sick and tired of the noise of terrorism. We need more innovations.

  4. dear Kiran
i think JuD was a better example then the Hezbollah. JuD was only into charity and welfare
whereas Hezbollah is an armed militant organization.

Hezbollah= Hez means army, hence the meaning “army of Allah”

so it would be unfair to compare Hezbollah and JuD

  5. The Hezbollah means the party of God and not the army of God. The name has occured in the Holy Quran.

  6. You’ll find Judith Palmer’s thirty year work on the Hezbollah an interesting read. It covers every aspect of it’s administration , the very reason why it was able to make a place in Lebanese politics.

  7. what has bollywood to do with Hezbollah and Jamat ut Dawa!!!! I did not find the comment constructive.

  8. the comment of ”” http://www.bollywood….”" requires some explanation if it is meant to make any sense.

  9. I fail to find any similarities between, Pakistan and Lebanon (two absolute different sets of circumstances and issues) as well as Hezbollah and Jamat ut Dawa (can one compare apples with rotten potatoes?)

  10. The bollywood’s depiction on anything that is goingon in the world or Pakistan has to do nothing with decision or policy making. The public may point out to this aspect but the diplomats or the high ranking officials have always declined from giving such references.

  11. @ # 10 : Can you translate it in plain and simple english for better comprehension?

  12. Muslims have , unfortunately , never ventured in to find any similarities or points of unity . Our greatest tragedy is that where the Western World looks forward to ideas as great as economic integration and military alliances , the Muslim world would rest satified with fitting in to this world in the form of fragments , bits and pieces.

  13. I dont understand it my self
    …..??????

  14. Kiran, lets face this fact, bitter as it might be, that in this world order (conforming to human nature, I might add) politics of realism (REAL POLITIK) is the only basis. International alliances are made of realism and not altruism. It is about time that we wake up to the reality that there is nothing like a ‘Muslim Umma’ or ‘Islamic World’ it has never existed ever and will never ever do. A muslim from Malaysia is absolutely different in his ‘world view’ and life style as opposed to say a muslim from Morocco and so on. If we accept this basic truth than, only, we can think in terms of our immediate environment, namely our country and our people. You have to take care of your interests and let Indonesians or Iraqis worry for their’s.
