It is only in Pakistan….

By Rana • Oct 11th, 2008 • Category: Politics • 2 Comments

My son just started going to school…..I put him in a private english school in gulberg….he is in preschool. The first day I went to drop him, it was crazy. It took me half an hour to drop him….why? because there was one car there to drop one child….and the queue was one km long……..In all the advances nations, children go to school either walking or in a school bus. Its only in Pakistan where a Prado comes to pick and drop one child…..I am waiting for my son to be old enough to put him on a school bus. The school rush hour is crazy….it blocks roads, pollutes the environment and on top it wastes precious time.

I think the solution is that the government should make it compulsory for every school and college to have a pick and drop bus. However, this would still not solve the problem as our society would feel “belittled” if their child went to school on bus….that should also be made mandatory or else a heavy “tax” should be imposed one those that still want to pick and drop their 3 year old in a Prado……

  1. In last 4 or 5 years traffic police had requested many times to school adminstrations and parents to activate school bus cultures and offered them bus service for pick and drop facility but ellite and hollow class of gulberg like areas in lahore completely refused their offer as women in such areas prefer to get up their children just 15 min before time of school and use personal vehicle as symbol of status in their circle. So as the time is pasing our society is lacking of practical approach and people are becoming more interested in adopting Indain drama culture in our socities.

  2. You forgot to mention wastage of fuel, i my self feel ridiculus we i see traffic congestion, and bottlenecks on the canal in lahore during office hours, and like the schools one person in one car, if we are all going in the same direction, then why cant we go togather?

the reason is that there is no decent public transport in lahore, when i used on move around in buses it was terrible! people used to wait for half an hour for the bus to arrive only to find it already packed with people, the lucky ones would manage to push and fight their way, they used to stand all the way,
but before the bus started moving it used to wait for atleast 10-15 mins , as the drivers did not want to reach the next stop and be penalized the bus company. And if it was summer the people used to get soaked in sweat, and struggle for fresh air.

I there was a decent bus company operating, i would use it, especially after the increasing fuel prices, many people might be feeling the same way
