Islamization and Talibanization, the Basic Difference

By Dawar Naqvi • Mar 19th, 2009 • Category: Politics, Worth A Second Look • 43 Comments

Islam means peace. Our prophet (PBUH) spread Islam through his character, honesty and reputation. Even before he announced for his prophecy he was famous as an AMEEN (Trust Worthy) and SADIQ (One Who Spoke Truth) among people with any faith. Our prophet’s life is an example for all mankind.

Character is like a tree and reputation like a shadow. The shadow is what we think of it, the tree is the real thing.

Our prophet was also a working man. He worked with dignity and honesty. He was a loyal person and fulfilled his duties at work with honesty and efficiently. He gave us the best example to perform work. This is the reason he got the marriage proposal from his business owner Hazarta Khadija razi ullah tann anu. Hazrat Khadija (RTU) was very inspired from prophet’s honesty during his business trip to Africa.

He accepted the proposal and married to the pious Hazrat Khadija (RTU).

We have a list of many Taliban leaders but do we know their profession?

The type of work they do?

How do they make money for living?

Among the reasons for the rapid and peaceful spread of Islam was the simplicity of its doctrine. It also repeatedly instructs man to use his powers of intelligence and observation.

Within a few years, great civilizations and universities were flourishing, for according to the Prophet, ’seeking knowledge is an obligation for every Muslim man and woman’. The synthesis of Eastern and Western ideas and of new thought with old, brought about great advances in medicine, mathematics, physics, astronomy, geography, architecture, art, literature, and history. Many crucial systems such as algebra, the Arabic numerals, and also the concept of the zero (vital to the advancement of mathematics), were transmitted to medieval Europe from Islam. Sophisticated instruments which were to make possible the European voyages of discovery were developed, including the astrolabe, the quadrant and good navigational maps.

And when it is said to them: “Make not mischief on the earth,” they say: “We are only peacemakers.”

أَلا إِنَّهُمْ هُمُ الْمُفْسِدُونَ وَلَـكِن لاَّ يَشْعُرُونَ (

Verily! They are the ones who make mischief, but they perceive not.

Every day activists of Taliban are involved in suicide bombing and killing of innocent people. Are they not making mischief on the earth?

Are Taliban peacemakers? They are doing totally against the order of ALLAH.

According to a tradition, at the time of the Prophet there was a man whose only concern was to speak negatively of the Prophet and spread wrong ideas about him. The son of this man became very angry and asked the Prophet to allow him to kill his father. The Prophet told him not to do that, as then people would say that the Prophet allowed killing among his people. The lesson which can be derived from this incident is that anything, which defames the name of Islam, should not be done. These incidents are mentioned in books but people fail to infer or draw lessons from them as they do not engage in the deep study of Islam.

A very good example of prophet dealing with non-Muslims is in his own family, Prophet beloved Uncle Hazrat Abu Talib was not a Muslim. But our beloved prophet always respected him. He never disrespected him. One of our prophet’s wives was a Christian, prophet neither put her down because of her religion nor did he divorce her or mistreated her.

Can Taliban live with non-Muslims in the way our Prophet lived?

They cannot even live peacefully with their own Muslim brothers.

In the Jewish Talmud there are many stories. In one incident, the Prophet Moses prayed to God: “O! God, take anything away from my followers but do not take away their wisdom.” God replied: “O! Moses, if we decide to take away something from a community, it is their wisdom that we take away.”

Today, many Muslims have lost their wisdom, as is evident from the events which have taken place recently. Those Muslims who are said to be involved in terrorism in Bombay gained nothing. In Palestine, the Arabs have been fighting for the last 60 years and have not achieved anything. In many places Muslims have resorted to suicide bombings, although suicide is unlawful in Islam. This is a result of deterioration and lack of wisdom. Those who are behind these suicide attacks are not afraid of accountability and the fact they will have to stand in front of God in the hereafter.

What is the reason for this madness and how did it originate?

The reason for this madness is hatred. Hate can make a man do anything. Hate began from Satan.

Origin of Taliban was not different. The Taliban initially enjoyed enormous good will from Afghans weary of the corruption, brutality, and incessant fighting of Mujahedeen warlords. Two contrasting narratives explain the beginnings of the Taliban. One is that the rape and murder of boys and girls from a family traveling to Kandahar or a similar outrage by Mujahideen bandits sparked Mullah Omar and his students to vow to rid Afghanistan of these criminals. The other is that the Pakistan-based truck shipping mafia known as the “Afghanistan Transit Trade” and their allies in the Pakistan government, trained, armed, and financed the Taliban to clear the southern road across Afghanistan to the Central Asian Republics of extortionate bandit gangs.

Islam teaches us to respect other people’s places of worship. After the conquest of Jerusalem when the Caliph Umar -may Allah be pleased with him- was visiting a church, the time of prayer came, the people of the church told him to pray there if he wanted. ‘Umar -may Allah be pleased with him- did not say that we were not allowed to pray in a church. He told them that he would not pray there, because he did not want to see Muslims later take other people’s places of worship.

Surah An-Nahl (The Bee), [16:125]

“Invite (people) to the way of your Lord with wisdom and beautiful Preaching, and argue with them in the best ways.”

Look at the wisdom of Taliban. They declared their Jihad against Jews and America.  After 2001 they destroyed historical giant Buddha’s Statues.

Did we see any wisdom in these acts from Taliban?

Statues had nothing to do with Jews or America, more than 1500 years ago they were built.

In the weeks before the Taliban destroyed the statues, they also entered the Kabul Museum wielding sledgehammers. They smashed 2,500 priceless artifacts stored there.

Buddhist nations which mostly existed in the Asia had shown some sympathy for Taliban in the early time of war. But what they got from Taliban.

(Sahih Muslim, Hadith 1356) The Prophet Muhammad (peace is upon him) said: “A time will come when the murderer will not know why he has committed murder and the victim will not know why he has been killed”.

When the Qur’an began revelation of first verse was ‘Iqra’ that is, read. Education is thus the starting point of every human activity.

The Qur’an repeatedly asks us to observe the earth and the heavens. This instills in man a desire to learn natural science. All the books of hadith have a chapter on knowledge (ilm). In Sahih Bukhari there is a chapter entitled “The virtue of one who acquires ilm (learning) and imparts that to others.”

How great importance is attached to learning in Islam can be understood from an event in the life of the Prophet. At the battle of Badr in which the Prophet gained victory over his opponents, seventy people of the enemy rank were taken prisoner. These prisoners of war were literate people. In order to benefit from their education the Prophet declared that if one prisoner teaches ten Medinan children how to read and write, this will serve as his ransom and he will be set free.

This was the first school in the history of Islam established by the Prophet himself with all its teachers being non-Muslims. Furthermore, they were all war prisoners. There was all the risk that after their release they will again create problems for Islam and Muslims. This Sunnah of the Prophet shows the importance of education.

In contrast Taliban extremists are bombing schools. Their treatment for the women is going worse than worse. It is totally against the sunnah and Islam.

We all know importance of education in Islam, especially for women, I have a question for Taliban which sex of Doctor they will choose for their daughters, wives or sister at the time of delivery of baby or any dental issue.

I have urge every one of you Please do not allow Taliban to hijack our religion. They are using our peaceful religion as a shield for their personal agenda. They have no leadership skills. I do not know any single Taliban leader who is famous for any good deeds. We should be aware of political and so called Islamic parties who support Taliban moment for their hidden benefits.

  2. These hate movements are masked with peace and justice.

my brother from karachi told me that when a common man tired from not getting justice through courts or police , that dejected common man goes to the MQM, who oblige him justice by the (MQM tradtional) gunda way,

like them taliban also help people to get their sympathies,

once these hate organizations get power , they will show their real faces, a preview to which was seen 12 May 07 and violence in karachi back in november last year or the bombing of girl’s school, shrines in NWFP

the best example is the Afghan taliban, who as mentioned above , started out for justice and rights, and ended up dening people the same

its is upon us the pakistanis that we should end up the bribe and sifarish(nepotism) culture in government departments, and vote for the best man, not for the party, and fight for the rights of our brothers, cause if he is suffering by the injustice today, we could be in his place tomorrow

like it was said on this blog a few days ago
“if there is fire in your neighbour’s house , it can and will reach your house”

only the strenghtning of our state institutuons will restore the confidence of a common undeducated people in the state, hence these hate groups like taliban and MQM would not prevail

  3. @ sharifuddin

if lists are anything to go by then PPP and PML-N has a bigger list then the one you have copy pasted

    so what?

will it justify their bad deeds?

    silly boy!

    @@@@@@@@@@@@ A MISTAKE

    Hindus invented the ZERO………..not muslims.

Invention of zeros by hindus has a STUNNING effect on the mathematics .

HINDUS taught the world HOW TO COUNT…….using zero.

    it says indians not hindus

well i guess i might be ok to say hindusm though there were muslims also

any way pointless to drift in to trivia,

it may be in the post , but not quite related to the topic

  7. Indians in that context was referred to Hindus since Islam is a relatively new religion.

It spread to India much much later………

Aryabhaṭa (AD 476–550) a GREAT indian mathematician had the knowledge of ZERO.

  9. Muhammad ibn Musa Khwarizmi (محمد بن موسى ابو جعفر الخوارزمي‎ - Muḥammad bin Mūsā Abū Ǧaʿfar al-Ḫawārazmī) was a Persian[1][2][3] mathematician, astronomer and geographer. He was born around 780, maybe in Khwārizm[2][4][5], in Uzbekistan, which was then part of the native Iranian-Khwarizmian Afrigid dynasty[6], and died around 850. He worked most of his life as a scholar in the House of Wisdom in Baghdad.

His Algebra, written around 820, was the first book on the systematic solution of linear and quadratic equations.

    >>>>>>>Consequently he is considered by many to be the father of algebra

,[7][8] a title some scholars assign to Diophantus. In the twelfth century, Latin translations of his Arithmetic, which explained Arabic numerals, introduced decimal positional number system to the Western world.[5] He was among the first to use zero as a place holder in positional base notation.[9]

    >>>>>>>>>>>The word algorithm derives from his name.

[9] He revised and updated Ptolemy’s Geography as well as writing several works on astronomy and astrology.

His contributions not only made a great impact on mathematics, but on language as well

    >>>>>>>>>>>. The word algebra is derived from al-jabr, one of the two operations used to solve quadratic equations, as described in his book.

hence it would be wrong to say
“”"”Algebra, Algorithms were invented by Muslims. A MISTAKE”"

  10. Dawar Naqvi Sahib
    Asslam u Alaikum

a well written article, Jazak Allah
What I wish to add, That Taliban are our Muslim brothers, no matter what is our opinion about them, they think they are sincere. Taliban are teaching and giving us back, what they were taught and given to them. We must talk to Taliban and communicate well on mutual interest of implementation of of Islam, based on “Quran” will of Allah, and authentic Sunnah, keeping 21st century in mind.I know its a difficult task, but sooner we do better it is for a peaceful Pakistan and the world. Islam is applicable in all times. Naqvi Sahib what do you think?

  11. MR. Incompetent Indian( READ PAKISTANI)

READ CAREFULLY WHAT I HAD WRITTEN.

ALGEBRA and ALGORITHM were invented by Muslims…………….NO DOUBT ABOUT THAT.

i NEVER said that those were mistake.

i accept that MUSLIMS invented Algebra and algorithm.Period.

  12. well you should have been clear,

were you just arguing for a “ZERO”?

  13. Dawar,

Nice article. Very good to see someone thinking on these lines also. I would say that Islam is good as you mentioned but the problem is with the mullah’s and maulana’s that come up and try to describe things in their own way, without having proper knowledge and people start believing them.

Also I would like ask Saeed, how i he going to do what he has said. Taliban are the people with very hard burnt thoughts and beliefs, changing that will take a complete generation to change, which is lot of time. In case if Pakistan falls in hands of Taliban then this task is not going to happen ever. I understand and support your point that they were taught wrong things, but that is not going to help now.

  14. Incompetent Indian,

Why dont you use your name or something rather than the one that you are using at the moment. No on here is saying or doing anything to defame Pakistan or Pakistani.

  15. Both concepts are antonyms of each other but it is painful fact that muslim countries’ soil were used to promote this concept of Talibinastion.Western forces had forced Muslim dictators to produce such monstrous characters so they could provide them shields when people would show anger against their tyrannical rule. Now this concept has grownup and taking its pace to march and destroy all who try to confront with them.In history one can compare them with chengaz khan brutal mode of ruling the people .So dictators of muslin world now confined themselves in high security plan and let ordinary Muslims to face these savages on their own,
