Is There a Way Forward?

By Maria Sultan • Feb 23rd, 2010 • Category: Politics, Worth A Second Look • 4 Comments

It is mind-boggling to believe that with such a vast operation going on at our North West border, the war will be over with in weeks or even within months. Can we afford to carry on this operation for even two more weeks? Or in other words, can we afford twice-a-day suicide attacks?

It sounds like an old adage, but we desperately need to support our troops in the Waziristan agency and in other parts of FATA, but we also need to rationalize about this war, about its end. Already there is growing talk about the impending operation in Southern Punjab. When Swat was being operated upon, we heard about Waziristan, and now already we are setting new targets, whereas the former and the current ones are very fragile and uncertain.

We know that our soldiers are not merely kicking their heels in the dust and stones of Waziristan in unfamiliar terrain encountering an uneasy enemy. We appreciate that our troops are sacrificing their blood and sweat for us. We are with them. But we also want to know clear objectives and time to snap the operations. More importantly we want to know now as why there is failure on the intelligence front?

We don’t know as what government is playing at as usual. It seems that while the war is heating up, the rulers are more interested in getting the NRO passed through the parliament. We don’t trust the excessively optimistic statements by the government ministers and advisors. We don’t count on their promises and their claims. We are ill at ease with them and their incapability.

That doesn’t mean that we don’t want democracy and it isn’t an invitation to the army to come knocking on the doors of Islamabad in the name of having single chain of command for the war against terror. We have seen enough of them in politics, and now we want them to be where they are needed most; at war front.

If terrorist leadership cannot be found, if the Taliban cannot be eliminated, if troops cannot be withdrawn, if victory cannot be declared, then at least we deserve to know as why our soldiers should die?

The comment which was not accepted:—

Always watch the ROOT CAUSE never take Notice to Branches therefore all I know as & when America will decide to leave South Asia Region on perpetual basis or at least such secret without Preparation of Minutes Meetings which are usually held of Americans with our English Speaking Ruling Elite who is quantity wise even less than 1% of entire Pakistani Population hence in such secret meetings i.e is called One To One Meeting under American & Brits Dictations up-coming directions of this poor & ignored nation are set without approval of this nation’s consent so that on such day the entire unrest or whatsoever political disturbance in this country will be settled & calm down moreover unresolved disputed matters may go to streamed line in an ease manner other wise this Master Mind of American Branded posed NRO type of misdeeds would prepare & thereafter these Westerners always ready to Black Mail to our English Speaking Ruling Elite & as we know & realize bitterly such NRO awarded Politicians are proved so much heavy burden even to bear because they may become easily Toys in their respective hands so much so on such dictations they’re ready to eliminate the already pre-established Nizam-e-Sharia or own self made system is not practically possible in this poor country & it is must to state without any ambiguity till American Presence this beloved country would remain stand between the devil & the deep sea.

In short be prepare for the very next move of Obama or Gordon Brown! Don’t Get Astonish if they demand unusual as a Black Mailer!

Why is Pakistani bloggers silent NOW???? WHY?? WHY??? WHY????

Had it happened in any other country……you HYPOCRITES would have been jumping with sadness……and hypocritical concern……what happened now????

    Long live Pakistani Hypocrisy

  3. The way forward is to maintain significant pressure on the Pakistani Taliban, cut out there escape routes and keeping hitting on their leadership, the perception that this is a never ending war is flawed, with the right amount of military pressure and capable political guidelines the militancy can be rooted out! This however is a long term operation and the results will be gradual

  4. Whether we can carry this or afford this war is not as important. The important part is that WE SHOULD. We should be thankful for the foreign aid we have received which is helping us fight these militant and extremists.
