Arias,
I think initially they wanted them and something happenned during the one week before auction they were not bought. But as you rightly said it could have been done with grace so that the names are NOT there in the first place.
Or is it the money bags in India wanted the PAK TV rights and Pak board refused to play ball and wanted it only for themselves while Indians pay the money to Pak players without anything in return.I donot know.
Andrew,
When did Americans wanted to fight the TALIBAN? You say " american foreign policy in last decade". IT CREATED ALQEADA UNDER OSAMA AND TALIBAN WAS CREATED BY ISI WITH AMERICAN HELP. If Americans wanted to fight the Taliban they would not have evacuated the entire Taliban leadership in Kunduz during 2001. Or America would not have left Afghanistan after 2001 for Iraq.
If As Gates said in Islamabad, that Americans did a blunder in abondoning military to military relationship with major NON/NATO ALLY PAKISTAN, why not give the PAKISTAN pseudo/NPT STATUS AS DONE TO INDIA?
By the way Pakistan army generals are no fools and they have not withdrawn their forces from Indian border. Americans must be in fools paradise if they think Pakistani army will move into North wazirstan. The emirate of North wazirstan is under protection of MUSLIM UMMA.

"Was it some American pressure through its minions in Indian foreign policy establishment as they very much want a war between the two nations? "

Are you daft? A war between India and Pakistan would give the Taliban the breathing space and traction to take over both Pakistan and Afghanistan. It would totally undermine everything the US has done in foreign policy for the last decade.

There are no international politics at stake here, it is simply this: the businessmen behind the IPL franchises did not want to take the risk of international politics and relations between India and Pakistan affecting the preparations for their campaigns.

Hello Johann

you are right to say that pakistan over reacted and the more they do it the more humiliation they will get. Jo mud humaray mun pe mal ni thi woh mal di, but we should not go with the dirtyface and show the dirt to everyone

it there was a genieun threat modi could have withdrawn the pakistanis right before the auction

and one thing more, i think aussies were also not sold, can you tell why?
it has to do with the revenge of the indians attacked in Australia
