Interview with Blogger Miscellany 101
By The Pakistani Spectator • Jan 22nd, 2009 • Category: Interviews • No ResponsesWould you please tell us something about you and your site?
My web site is a potpourri of topics that interest me. I think the “about me” tab pretty much answers this first question.
Do you feel that you continue to grow in your writing the longer you write? Why is that important to you?
I think words are very powerful. I like sitting down and taking the time to put them on the printed page; it’s a work of art, pretty much like a painter who draws a pretty picture that starts on an empty canvass and while a picture is worth a thousand words, a revolution began in 7th century Arabia with the simple command, “read”.
I’m wondering what some of your memorable experiences are with blogging?
The simple comments people make which show appreciation for a post I’ve made on the blog are the most memorable experiences. That hasn’t happen much but the one or two times it has is heartwarming.
What do you do in order to keep up your communication with other bloggers?
i don’t communicate with other bloggers, but if I use any material from their pages I usually give them a mention on my blog and link to theirs.
What do you think is the most exciting or most innovative use of technology in politics right now?
The free use of the internet. Barack Obama, and before him Howard Dean raised millions of dollars on the ‘net.
Do you think that these new technologies are effective in making people more responsive?
I think they are making people more aware. People are not as responsive as they should be, yet.
What do you think sets Your site apart from others?
Nothing. It’s one of many sites available, but it’s mine.
If you could choose one characteristic you have that brought you success in life, what would it be?
I am not successful, but I would like to be a more dutiful worshipper of God.
What was the happiest and gloomiest moment of your life?
The gloomiest moment was the death of my parents….I’m still waiting for the happiest.
If you could pick a travel destination, anywhere in the world, with no worries about how it’s paid for - what would your top 3 choices be?
Australia, Switzerland, Medina al-Munawarah
What is your favorite book and why?
Quran, because in it God reveals everything about human nature that we seemed to have forgotten.
What’s the first thing you notice about a person (whether you know them or not)?
Whether their eyes are sincere and focused.
Is there anyone from your past that once told you you couldn’t write?
No.
How bloggers can benefit from blogs financially?
I don’t know. I don’t receive any money for my blog. I think those that do stack their pages with ads but I’m not sure how that works.
Is it true that who has a successful blog has an awful lot of time on their hands?
No.I don’t think so. I spend a lot of time on my blog and I’m not successful, whereas others like Juan Cole are probably very, very busy.
What role can bloggers of the world play to make this world more friendlier and less hostile?
Bloggers won’t have any control over that. People far greater than us have tried with limited success. But bloggers should write and pass on news to their readers and do this independently of one another.
Who are your top five favourite bloggers?
xymphora, informed comment, angry arab news service, lenin’s tomb, raising yousuf and noor.
Is there one observation or column or post that has gotten the most powerful reaction from people?
News is changing daily and information is being shared, posted, published at an alarming rate. The answer to this question really depends on what’s the news of the day. Gaza news has been followed somewhat closely on miscellany101, but so has the campaign information on Obama so it’s really cyclical.
What is your perception about Pakistan and its people?
It is a country within the community of nations. I hope it can secure for itself peace and prosperity.
Have you ever become stunned by the uniqueness of any blogger?
No.
What is the most striking difference between a developed country and a developing country?
Order and justice.
What is the future of blogging?
Limitless.
You have also got a blogging life, how has it directly affected both your personal and professional life?
It has gotten in the way at times so I’ve had to cut back on the number of posts and reduce the time I spend writing a post. That bothers me, but there are far more important things than this blog. I have to find the balance.
What are your future plans?
Dying. Everyday brings me closer to death. I need to prepare for it by being more devout and asking for forgiveness for what I’ve done in this life. Only God knows the future and I can only be sure of death.
Any Message you want to give to the readers of The Pakistani Spectator?
No. Pakistan I’m sure has people who are far more capable than I of giving advice. My wish is for you to prosper peacefully.
