Interview with Blogger Kajal Singh
By The Pakistani Spectator • Mar 13th, 2009 • Category: Interviews • 7 Comments1.Would you please tell us something about you and your site?
My name is Kajal Singh andI am pursuing a bachelor’s degree of Business Administration in Delhi.I am an average Indian girl with a few dreams of my own.A person of extremes and I am totally in love with the drama that is ‘Life’. My site ‘The Pink Orchid - an unknown quest’ is about everything that you can set your mind on, except sports. As the name suggests, it is about a search that is unknown but not a wild goose chase either. As of now, I can say it is about a quest for my ’self’ and in the process I am getting to know ‘the real me’ better. I have two more individual blogs namely The Mush Factor (where mush is the name of the game) and Mera Astitva (a collection of my hindi poems).
My blog authorship doesn’t end here. I am a part of three group blogs as well, namely - The Writers’ Lounge, The Gateway of India and Time to Rhyme .
2. Do you feel that you continue to grow in your writing the longer you write? Why is that important to you?
Blogosphere is majorly concerned with writing, though off late reading has become a part of it. Ofcourse, writing improves with time. The improvement takes place due to readers’ and self criticism in the long run. So, when we start writing better, then, along with readers’ appreciation, a sense of satisfaction comes in. Improved writing also means better expression. Aren’t all of us blogging to express ourselves? So why not do it in the best way possible! I guess that answers your question.
3. I’m wondering what some of your memorable experiences are with blogging?
This one is simple. One of the most memorable blogging experiences was when I got my first follower and my first comment both from this very talented blogger, Mohammed Musthafa Azeez. Rest of the memories are in relation to the beautiful bonding that I share with my blogger buddies. The latest memorable blogging experience will defenitely be getting interviewed here.
4. What do you do in order to keep up your communication with other bloggers?
For keeping up my communication, I frequently reply to comments and make sure to leave comments on whatever I read. Eventually some of the bloggers end up in my gtalk buddy list. So keeping up communication with bloggers is quite convenient.
5. What do you think is the most exciting or most innovative use of technology in politics right now?
I am a firm believer of the fact that inclusion of technology sometimes makes connections impersonal. Especially politicians should never lose out on the personal visits to people who believe in them and should always keep track of their problems. Sitting in an air conditioned office and talking about his/her love for the underprivileged in a video conference interview doesn’t work for me. Though I am sure that a lot of readers will disagree.
But when we are talking about global policies and politics, technology is a bliss. In that case internet and video conferencing definitely prove to be of great help.
6. Do you think that these new technologies are effective in making people more responsive?
Oh yes, for sure! Take blogging for example. If the politicians try reading blogs, they’ll definitely get some food for thought and will realize the areas that seriously require to be worked upon. Another example could be SMS polls that news media take up which are readily participated by the people from all walks of life. So I’d say technologies are effective in making people more responsive.
7. What do you think sets Your site apart from others?
This question has been asked by a lot of social networking sites in blogsworld, for which I always give a cliched answer. I am me and no one else can be me and that goes for my site as well. On a second thought I feel some of my regular readers should be answering this. And on a third thought I feel it is the way I write and the topics I cover that the reader tends to relate to it, thereby setting my site apart from others. Phew! That was a tough one.
8. If you could choose one characteristic you have that brought you success in life, what would it be?
I feel it takes a lot of characteristics to actually taste success and I dont really think that I am successful as yet because a lot of dreams still remain unfulfilled. To be honest, I’d say My ability to be myself and my dogged determination towards things I believe in are two characteristics that are responsible for whatever I have achieved till date.
9. What was the happiest and gloomiest moment of your life?
As I already mentioned that I love the drama that is life so I am one such person for whom every happy moment is defined as the happiest and every sad moment is termed as gloomiest. So I am not quite sure if my answer would fit in the criteria in the question. Still I am drifting to one happy moment which was when my blog was up and running and one sad moment was when my faith and belief was judged because of a poem, which was just an example of my imaginary poetic expression.
10. If you could pick a travel destination, anywhere in the world, with no worries about how it’s paid for - what would your top 3 choices be?
Without any second thoughts,
Manali - HP - India (Been there, but I’d want to go again)
Singapore (I want to go shopping here, at least once.)
and Niagra Falls. (for obvious reasons)
11. What is your favorite book and why?
Any book authored by Sidney Sheldon. One of the best being Tell Me Your Dreams. I love his way of story telling and the fact that his central character is always a woman.
12. What’s the first thing you notice about a person (whether you know them or not)?
Eyes. They tell a lot about a person.
13. Is there anyone from your past that once told you you couldn’t write?
Oh yes, an aunt! She used to preach how wasteful it is to write and how incapable I am. At present, she urges me to read out my poems to her.
14. How bloggers can benefit from blogs financially?
Through adsense, where in one can put up advertisements and make moolah in proportion to the number of clicks the advertisements get. Though I might be wrong in the description too. For me blogging is a mode of expression. I am sure we have a thousand more ways to make money but I believe there should be at least one thing which you do just for your self satisfaction. Blogging is one such thing for me.
15. Is it true that who has a successful blog has an awful lot of time on their hands?
I don’t deny the possibility of this but yes, time management plays a very important role where you don’t compromise on the priorities.
16. What role can bloggers of the world play to make this world more friendlier and less hostile?
The bloggers are playing a role already. Blogworld is a place where no hostility and no borders exist. Here its one world and everyone has freedom of speech and expression. Almost everyone gets heard here and no one’s views are suppressed. Isn’t it a basis of making this world more frienlier and less hostile? I am sure slowly this will be seen in real lives too as the bloggers are a part of this very world.
17. Who are your top five favourite bloggers?
I don’t have a top 5, rather I have a top 7.
Chriz - His posts always make me smile.
Ste - His writes keep bringing different shades of creativity
Leo - His poetry is a great inspiration to me.
Prats - I am a fan of her creativity, especially her poems.
Sandeep - He is a magical story-teller.
Sawan - He is a source of motivation and positive energy in ways more than one.
and Mayz - I love him for the impact his writes have on me - every single time.
.I never miss out on their writes.
Though of course I need to mention Rashi, Amitabh ji and Darpan for the kind of creative excellence they possess.
I follow more than 70 blogs and read all of them regularly so choosing my top favorites was indeed a tough task.
18. Is there one observation or column or post that has gotten the most powerful reaction from people?
I have two options for answering this and I will choose both.
Firstly the poem ‘Don’t Ask Any Questions’ got the maximum reactions and the post ‘Fear - ah whatever that is!!’ got a lot of thought provoking comments.
Right now I could only think of these two.
19. What is your perception about Pakistan and its people?
Pakistan is a beautiful country full of nice-hearted people who are as human as we are and so full of love.
20. Have you ever become stunned by the uniqueness of any blogger?
Oh Yes - Chriz, without doubt. He manages to make his readers have a good laugh with every write-up of his. That’s what is unique and amazing about this blogger.
21. What is the most striking difference between a developed country and a developing country?
Developed countries lead and developing countries follow. But I am sure with proper resource allocation, planning and implementation a lot of developing countries can fall into the cadre of developed countries.
22. What is the future of blogging?
Blogging is here to stay, as long as brains are working and the ‘itch to write’ prevails. Future of blogging means more number of bloggers, more technology involvement and probably a lot of blogger meets.
23. You have also got a blogging life, how has it directly affected both your personal and professional life?
It has affected my personal and professional life as all my time goes into blogging. But off late I am trying to set my priorities, though still blogging forms a mojor part of my day. Ofcourse the friends that I got in my blogging life are an important part of my life now.
24. What are your future plans?
To own an HR consultancy and training firm. Blogging is going to be a part of my future too, yes.
25. Any Message you want to give to the readers of The Pakistani Spectator?
I would say to all bloggers that please taking blogging seriously, get a reader base for yourself because the more people read you, the more you are heard. Use this blogging platform to spread, love, cheer and basic values of humanity. I am a firm believer of the fact that God created but one world for all us to stay together with love and harmony.
