Interview with Blogger Carlos Pinho

Would you please tell us something about you and your site?

I’m not in the industry of webdesign/development. However, as I’m very curious on it, I start learning from books and websites. My professional industry is the Maritime Intermodal Transportation / Logistics, and I’m working for Evergreen Line as Line Manager for USA trades. I own two websites, the Flash Enabled Blog and The Tech Labs, all webdesign / development related. At Flash Enabled Blog I try to feature the best how to articles on some design and development technologies as also showcase people works, while at The Tech Labs I post quality and extensive tutorials on Adobe Air, Flash and Flex.

Do you feel that you continue to grow in your writing the longer you write? Why is that important to you?

Definitely yes. Once, a professor told me “Bear always in mind that, what you learn in the college just counts for 25% to be successful on your daily tasks, the experience are the other 75%”. So, longer I write or develop new things, more skills I will be gaining. The experience we get on writing is very important as it can determinate the popularity you can achieve with your readers. Moreover, it is also important to know which kind of people reads your blog, so you can adapt your write to the audience. Although, as I’m Portguese my English skills are not so high as others, and I prefer to write with simple terms in order to be easier to everyone to get the point.

I’m wondering what some of your memorable experiences are with blogging?

One of the best things I got while blogging, was to receive comments and messages from people I would never imagine they would read some of my posts like some Adobe’s Evangelists. People that I would never be able to contact without blogging.

What do you do in order to keep up your communication with other bloggers?

I maintain some e-mail contacts with some of the bloggers I like.

What do you think is the most exciting or most innovative use of technology in politics right now?

I believe that the best shot of any politician is the internet. With the internet any person is available 24/7 and can hear the people interests.

Do you think that these new technologies are effective in making people more responsive?

For sure.

What do you think sets Your site apart from others?

Quality and useful information (for free).

If you could choose one characteristic you have that brought you success in life, what would it be?

I don’t thing I’ve success in life. I think that I work daily to achieve it. When I die, then people will know if I was successful or not.

What was the happiest and gloomiest moment of your life?

There are three moments that I will never forget, my marriage, and the days when my daughter and son born.

Do you think [the use of Twitter and other social networking tools by politicians] is bandwagon jumping or what?

I think that social networking are for everyone. Politicians have their space too. But you only go there if you want.

If you could pick a travel destination, anywhere in the world, with no worries about how it’s
paid for - what would your top 3 choices be?

Pascoa Island, Galapagos and Kilimanjaro.

What is your favorite book and why?

“Memorial do Convento” by the Nobel Saramago. Due to the historical aspects that are focused during the strory.

What’s the first thing you notice about a person (whether you know them or not)?

The eyes.


Is there anyone from your past that once told you you couldn’t write?

No.

How bloggers can benefit from blogs financially?

I started earning money from blogging one year after I deployed Flash Enabled Blog. I tried not to fill ads all over the places with text links and adsense. Instead, I wrote content to bring daily readers to it, and to fix supporters to give me some longer feasibility.

Is it true that who has a successful blog has an awful lot of time on their hands?

I’m married, and have two kids. I work, and I blog aside for two different sites. If I’ve time? Yes I’ve. Not as much as I would like but I’ve.

What are your thoughts on corporate blogs and what do you think the biggest advantages and disadvantages are?

Never though on it! Dunno!

What role can bloggers of the world play to make this world friendlier and less hostile?
There are some campaigns running time to time in the internet, and the most successful are the ones that integrate blogs, like the China Earthquake Aid campaigns. I believe that these kind of actions contribute to a friendlier world.

Robert Scoble(Scobleizer), Lee Brimelow(The Flash Blog), Vitaly Friedman and Sven Lennartz (Smashing Magazine), Fabio (Abduzeedo)

Is there one observation or column or post that has gotten the most powerful reaction from people?

Not really.

What is your perception about Pakistan and its people?

Pakistan is a country with difficulties but looking forward to win those battles. First will have to achieve the internal peace before expand their beautiful culture.

Have you ever become stunned by the uniqueness of any blogger?

Eheheh. Yes, when I found two blogs, with lot’s of copy/past articles from very well know blogs including mine.

What is the most striking difference between a developed country and a developing country?

While one usually faces with social / exclusion problems, the other faces with economical problems.

What is the future of blogging?

The Vlogs.

You have also got a blogging life, how has it directly affected both your personal and professional life?

I need to organize my work and quotidian tasks to have time for everything. However during weekends I try to forget blogging and spent my time with my family.

What are your future plans?

Grow the readers of my blogs, create one or two more and if I face with timeless problems then will try to create a partnership with other persons.
