Implications of Making Yousaf Raza Gillani Prime Minister
By Dr. Hassan Isfahani • Mar 22nd, 2008 • Category: Politics, Worth A Second Look • 7 CommentsThe slides are revolving like hell on the private channels that the PPP has finalized the name of Makhdoom Yousuf Raza Gillani from Multan for the Prime Ministerial job, and the coalition partners have retified the name.
Now that’s not a sweet, smooth and silky decision. One point of caution is that there still are left many ifs and buts in this nomination, and one could get a last minute surprise in this regard. This decision is at least beyond my expectations and whatever opinion I have.
This decision could hamper the PPP position nationwide. If Zardari’s intent is to strengthen the PPP position in Punjab by nominating a PM from South Punjab, then that’s ridiculous, because Southern Punjab’s effect on rest of the Punjab is not even remotely tangible. Besides, the status of Makhdoom Yousuf Raza Gillani in Southern Punjab is not that strong, and he is the weakest Makhdoom in that area. Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Makhdoom Javed Hashmi are stronger than Makhdoom Yousaf Raza Gillani.
Besides Makhdoom Yousuf is not Baloch, and so doesn’t enjoy the support of Jatoi’s and Mazaris, and he is not well liked in the South belt which extends to the Jhang area, and all the “Guddi Nasheens” of Sarghodha, Jhang, Khanewal, Bahawalpur, Multan, Rahim Yar Khan are not in the favour of Makhdoom Yousuf. Though Pir Pagara is the uncle of Yousuf Raza Gillani, but Jehangir Tarin of PML-F are not the biggest fan of Yousaf Raza Gillani.
Then there are many question marks over the character of Yousaf Raza Gillani. His video clip of procession with Sherry Rehman is now a classic watched by even the trees in Pakistan. The affair of Yousaf Raza Gillani with singer Naheed Akhtar is not a distant memory, and there are plethora of others. Yes, its’ his personal life, but then if he becomes our Prime Minister then we have every right to question his past and present.
Yousuf Raza Gillani was not the most favorite of late Benazir Bhutto, and on numerous occassion the confrontation between the two was reported in the media, and Benazir Bhutto warned Yousuf Gillani many times.
So still any last time swing could happen. Keep your fingers crossed.

Are we tlking about a future PM of Pakistan or tryig to find “Guddi Nasheen” for some “Silsilla”?

i think you are trying to defame him as he comes from a prominent shia family and as such majority of pakistani sunnis despise the strong presence of minority shia’s in positions of authority .I think its time we start to look clearly and without personal prejudice ,the video was fabricated and it can never prove that yousuf had any wrong intentions
Listen dear Sarosh I am not talking about any Shia or Sunnis. OK. Please, try to grow up a little and don’t try to interpret every opinion one expresses through your, slightly, limited mind. Please.
Yes I am perturbed by the emphasis on the facts like (read above):

As far as my, nominated, future PM is concerned I for one most definitely wish him to have some other qualifications and a track record of his public service. Him being a Makhdoom is just not good enough. DOES HE HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A “KHADIM”. The people of Pakistan need “Khadims” not Makhdooms. You get my point.
As far as the video you are referring to and its authenticity and its strength as an evidence of Mr. Yousuf Raza Gillani’s intentions, I don’t have any desire, need or inclinations to prove anyone’s “intentions”. One thing I wished and wish again that the lady concerned should have slapped him (given him a nice tight THUPPADR, You know a “CHAANTA”). This would have been such a great lesson for all the women of Pakistan, in addition to the men. I would have recoomended it for educational purpose in all our schools and maddersas and TV.
Don’t you think you have a right to scrutinize each and every actions / deeds of those who are / wish to be in public life and how they conduct themselves in public.
