I am not Powerless
By Sameer Shaharyar • Jul 29th, 2008 • Category: Politics • No ResponsesThe pygmy Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gillani has desperately tried in the recent days to lift his image in the people, and in his bid has tried to take many steps in vain. From addressing the nation in the most clumsy way possible, and then holding a not so impressive meeting with the journalists and the editors of the newspapers, Prime Minister then tried to make some executive changes, and when they were also over-ruled by the king maker Zardari, he took his punctured balloon to Washington.
When in need, the Americans receive our premiers with great hubbub and accord them VVVIP treatment, and when not in need, they frisk them from toe to head. Right now, both parties need each other desperately, American more than the Pakistanis. With the American Presidential elections looming large, Republicans would try every trick in the trade to press upon the not-so-guileful Pakistani premier to do something really smashing in the tribal region against the militants to raise the ratings of McCain back home.
Whereas Yousuf would certainly set some pre-conditions for that. He would surly be asking huge largess from the free world and boy does he need that. With extremely strained economy back home, falling rupees, melted stock exchanges, jammed industry, extra high inflation and mounting debts have left no option for our “proud” premier but to ask for as much financial help as possible.
At least he has got the power to ask as much alms as possible.
