Hussain Haqqani : Another Strange Choice by Zardari
By Salman Mugsi • Oct 7th, 2009 • Category: Politics • 11 CommentsI still remember those pictures (probably forged) of Begum Nusrat Bhutto with President Ford and the pictures of late Benazir Bhutto during the vitriolic elections campaigns of the nineties. The mob who was responsbile for producing those pictures and other mud-slinging material over the Bhutto family, also included a very active role of Mr. Hussain Haqqani, who first remained in the shadows of General Ziaul Haq, who hanged Zardari’s father in law and then Haqqani remained an acolyte of Nawaz Sharif.
Now the same Mr. Haqqani is the ambassador of Pakistan to the United States and is a blue-eyed boy of Pakistan and without his consent and direction, no foreign policy of Pakistan materializes and the he is the number 3 in the government only after Zardari and Rehman Malik. He, undoubtly wields more power and clout than the premier and the cabinet.
While in the land of Uncle Sam, Haqqani exudes a very alien aura. His actions and rhetoric is aimed at securing the US interests more. I guess there is no need of Ann W Patterson in Islamabad and in these times of recession, US must save some bucks by firing the redundant Patterson, as Haqqani is very immaculately doing the job for them. From Kerry Lugar Bill to the war on terror and to the Aafiq Siddiqui case to other numerous issues, Haqqani has done a wonderful job for the US.
My question is that does Haqqani understands state of the conflict, the risks, and relevant needs of his position?

He is choice of US not zardari but surely house of lords in WDC always looks for such a candidate in this ambassador post who has good understanding with their pet placed in our president house.This is same equation as we watched in last era where gen musharf- gen durrani reflects same bond of understanding as found in haqqani zardari case.
An ambassador or an High Commisioner has been mostly a gifted post, nepotism is the hall mark of PPP and Other regimes.
Hussain Haqqani has till date never made a prudent decision vis-a-vis Pakistan s national interests.He is no doubt a puppet of US thats why he has been selected and it seems he has to stay for long because US intends to do a lot of homework on Pakistan.They need someone like him to carry on with their ambitions evenly.He himself knows his worth,the moment he deviates from their obedience he will bade farewell to his office.So one should understand the poor boy s plight.
Hussain Haqqani is the embodiment of how Zardari mind works.
what about mrs. Haqqani??? she is in the presidency..
is she the first lady of the presidency???
Haqqani is one of the smartest ambassadors Pakistan ever had. He’s sharp, well spoken and very logical. Don’t judge him just because he’s appointed by Zardari, see how and what he speaks.
Oh sure tanzeel he is the smartest son of gun who become blue boy of US people working on Pakistan issues.We surely cant judge him via zardari’s selections but one thing is interested that he left his wife in the custody of zardari without giving preference to his normal married life living together after catching top diplomat status and left his 18 year younger wife in the safe custody of zardari knowing it very well that PPP workers favoring naheed khan(sister of his ex wife) don’t like her presence in PPP working circle,
So his greed of grabbing the state resources is quite obvious from his little acts and every body knows that on the name of official visits either he or his wife are throughout roaming between two countries as one goes from gujranwala to lahore on monthly basis.
I dont believe this. Haqqani is one of two reasons that Pakistan’s image has regained the massive ground it lost. Him and Zardari are the only reasons USA has believed that we are truly working against terrorism, and not come barging in with guns blazing to make us the next Afghanistan. And instead of showing support to our DEMOCRATICALLY elected President and his government, you are sitting around making comments on Haqqani’s wife. You are the true detractors of Pakistan.
When people become mad of gaining maximum in minimum time then their all aspects can be criticized.
For God sake if people like him is the only reason to make US belief that we are working against terrorism so what is purpose of huge network of US consulate working undercover all around us .Even our army bases they have been accommodated to check the situation as per their choice.
Zardari track record is very straight so we are not surprise on his performance so how Americans believe on him and his acts is still a big surprise for us as our Preseident himself forgets what he say with in 24 hrs.
Several serious political issues have taken over the media and garnered national attention over the past few weeks. These include President Zardari’s trip to the United States, the Punjab government requesting a delay in the by-poll elections the bomb blast at the World Food Program UN office in Islamabad and of course, the Kerry-Lugar Bill seems to be leading in the popular vote. The question is, with immense opposition brewing and the government allowing an open debate in the National Assembly, will we be able to find a viable solution?
