How to Bridge the Chasm

By Farid Masood • Dec 31st, 2007 • Category: Politics • 7 Comments

Assassination of Ms Bhutto was a brutal act of terrorizing the electoral process and for the nation as well. Involved in her death may be not only within Pakistan. But it is to sure that PPP is going to remember the current regime and the ex-ruling part PML(Q) as two of the assassinator till the truth is revealed (if happens, nation have doubts). If free and fair elections are conducted it is to sure that the shock wave generated by the death of Ms Bhutto PPP with PML(N) shall clean sweep the seats all over the Pakistan and there will be no standing of PML(Q) any where. This is what Mr Bilawal Bhutto Zardari termed as Democratic Revenge.

If PPP along with PML(N) forms the government the following may be going to be happened:

1. Re-instatement of Judiciary on the state of 20th July 2007.
2. National Accountability to curb many things.
3. Reversal of wrong doings with the rule of law.
4. Stoppage of army actions within Pakistan and if COAS do not agree then sending him back home.
5. Limit the role of ‘Somebody’ in politics.

Now time to act accordingly is being wasted by the authorities. The President need to keep hearing from his surroundings but acting in the greater interest of the nation. He is the only person to come forward the bridge the chasm created between the PPP and the current regime by the death of Ms Bhutto. Nations approach is already against the current setup. Therefore, coming forward and offering boldly to PPP that government will leave no stone unturned to investigate her assassination in cooperation with Pakistan Peoples Party.

Government should also announce bravely that whoever is involved in this killing of Ms Bhutto and innocent people will be hanged to death publicly. Create a neutral commission of inquiry comprissing of the judges headed by Mr Khalil-ur-Rehman Ramday Government shall not delay elections, and where elections cannot be held due to lack of material or due to law and order situation prevents, elections shall only be delayed there along with surety of transparent election.

This transparency needs not to be vetted by M/s Transparency International as its internal matter of Pakistan. Nation should speak itself of transparency of the election. This will prevent post election agitation, which we cannot bear in such conditions, as already the loss done to this country is higher.

  1. i am starting to feel like Im one of the few people in the world who had not had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Bhutto, as everyone is speaking or writing about her and their friendship with her. I wish I could have, she appears to be have been a very great person. Unfortunately she will not be able to attempt to help her country, and it appears that with the cover ups and abruptness that the crime scene and the lack of examination of her body before burial, and the massive amount of “conspiracy ” stories flooding the press, whoever did this is covering their tracks well and will most likely never be exposed.

  2. How terribly sad and forseeable! A beautiful light has been snuffed out and we sat back and watched it happen. We warned the Pakistani government that it was coming, but they didn’t do anything. What did we expect? Why didn’t we do more?

This only adds insult to injury. Our government has played a key role in extending chaos in the Muslim world from Europe to China. What did we the people expect?

The CIA told the Pakistani secret police, who created the Taliban, that al-Quada(Taliban ally) planned to attack moderate politicians. Somehow they didn’t pay attention. Maybe our government didn’t pay attention.

  3. A fine fine tribute to a complex, gifted leader. I’m sorry she’s gone too-though you knew this could very well happen. I point the finger at Musharref just because he deserves it and you know he’s happier because she’s gone. Pakistan is a lesser place w/ her loss I am sure.

  4. “”"It was not the life I planned, but it is the life I have. My husband and children accept and understand that my political responsibilities to the people of Pakistan come first, as painful as that personally is to all of us. I would like to be planning my son’s move to his first year at college later this month, but instead I am planning my return to Pakistan and my party’s parliamentary election campaign.”"”

    Benazir Bhutto ,

  5. I had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. Bhutto when she was in Washington on the trip you mention. I work as concierge in the Hay Adams Hotel across from the White House and she spent a lot of time in meetings at the hotel. One afternoon she was sitting alone across from my desk when I recognized her and we had the opportunity to chat for about a half hour. I told her how I remembered being so impressed when I read the first articles about her taking over as PM at the age of 35 and how she had made such positive changes on her country. We talked politics and culture. We talked about art exhibits in town and travel experiences.

She was an amazing woman and will always remain an inspiration to me. Thank you Arianna for writing a little something about her, and not just the political implications of her tragic death.

  6. The fate of PPP is based on its future performance, they are with good slogans but one can wonder that those problems will be full filled. Many odd things were acceptable to people in presence of Benazir due to her personality and charisma. I have written a post about future of PPP after Benazir, if interested, one can find it on my blog.
May peace prevail in Pakistan and on Earth!
