They, from the onset, told us that Mustafa Kamal was a “number 2″ mayor, and that was also vetted by a world body, though now the world body is stunned at the whole episode.
According to their website, the FOREIGN POLICY Magazine is the premier, award-winning magazine of global politics, economics, and ideas.

All hell broke loose some days ago, when Karachiite woke up to find their city littered with banners congratulating the city Nazim of his receiving the title of No. 2 Mayor in the world by the Foreign Policy. Mayor not only received the facilitations, but also thanked his Quaid Altaf Hussain and the whole MQM machine started parading the mayor in the load-shedding.
Then Joshua Keating of FP publishes this:
At issue is a sidebar from FP’s recent Global Cities Index that names Kamal, Berlin’s Klaus Wowereit, and Chongqing’s Wang Hongju as “mayors of the moment” who have found innovative ways to globalize their cities. The mayors are not ranked, nor are we implying that they are objectively “better” than any other mayors, but that didn’t stop the Karachi city government from issuing a press release on its Web site (they’ve changed the text since being contacted by FP) congratulating Kamal for being the No. 2 mayor in the world. For the record, the three names are not listed in any particular order.

Shame on you! All those who, under the influenced of extreme of rivalry as innate enmity and distracted attitude as cruelty, again started the unconditional criticism of maligning and ferociously declining the picture as reality.

If some one has qualified to compete as contestant, he endorses his capacity and capability as representation.
No body has right to express his version of hatred in terms of non achievement especially those whose expressions as gesture are full of malice and malafide intentions as racist.
This enmity against self sighted and favorite breed error for hatred against single community is clearly visible from the theme of your article to create same mess of annoyance that is yours all time agenda.
Your day and nights starts and ends only to cultivate fresh crop of satanic scoops against MQM and Mohajir community.
What has been done by Mustafa kamal is marvelous script of doctrine and philosophical grant of his organizational capabilities as authority by his legitimate masters.
His work within the bugged system of failed economy and distorted anatomy is a methodology of vast horizon and enthusiasm.
In the eyes of karachite whether belonging to any community less, irrational, ethnic crooked mentality, is an art of excellence and appraise and is beyond the award of numerical inclination.
I and all legitimate resident of Karachi belonging to any caste, cadre and community consider him the ever presenter and legitimate achiever of award of excellence as the best mayor of the nation whose community as populace was never served the way before.
Congrats to Mustafa kamal whose services can never be set aside and besiege.

Mustafa kamal is doing unbelievable job in karachi and nobody is still able to put any kind of charges of embezzlement or favoritism on him that is synonyms features for mayor’s job but …. when ever he used the flattery praise for altaf dada, all goes waste in seconds.As we are sure that mustafa is, refined, incredible proud mayor of Karachi , same we are sure that altaf is absconder, terrorist and gangster of karachi so the hugging of two opposite characters are producing very suspicious questions in our minds.Secondly karachi residents are smelling some foul play under the carpets of govt.Talibinisation propoganda, again start of target killings on political gangsters, threatening letters to shop keeper specially in mqm dominating areas, and horrifying apprehensions of mqm dada from the UK are those hints that are showing that something is cooking wrong there.
One of ranger officer deputed in landhi told me that 12 may, and 27 dec events have given lot of boost to gangsters groups in karachi and hyderabad.Not a single actual culprit was caught and charged on these days even their photos were provided by media men to law enforcing agencies.They received lot of monetary benefits by creating this horror and terror without any fear.So it might be chance that some other popular personality might be targeted to trigger such kind of scene that people witnessed on two dark days of Karachi.
I wish that God save mustafa kamal and dr ammir liquat from the internal wrath of terror groups as both personalities are devoted their lives for benefits of people of Karachi.I am sure that internally Altaf is feeling jealous of MK as our NRO president is not accepting the popularity of Atizaz ahsen in public.The new brotherhood relation between two culprits zardai and altaf can only produce a catastrophic effect on sind politics.
The only blot on MK”s record is that he is from MQM which according to imran khan is terroist organization.

متحدہ قومی موومنٹ کی طرف سے فارن پالیسی میگزین کے حوالے سے سٹی ناظم مصطفی کمال کو دنیا کا دوسرا بہترین میئر قرار دینے کے زبردست پروپیگنڈے نے فارن پالیسی میگزین کو دشواری میں ڈال دیا ہے۔ میگزین کی طرف سے بار بار وضاحت کی جارہی ہے کہ یہ غلط ہے اور مصطفی کمال کو دوسرا بہترین میئر قرار نہیں دیا گیا۔ فارن پالیسی میگزین کے ترجمان جو شواکیٹنگ نے جو ایڈیٹر کی ای میل چیک کرتے ہیں ایک بار پھر یہ وضاحت جاری کی ہے کہ ہمیں پاکستان کے قارئین اور صحافیوں کی طرف سے بے شمار ای میلز موصول ہوئی ہیں جن میں دریافت کیا گیا ہے کہ کیا میگزین نے مصطفی کمال کو دنیا کا دوسرا بہترین میئر قرار دیا ہے لیکن ہم نے ایسا کچھ نہیں کیا۔ پاکستان کے بڑے انگریزی اخبار ڈان نے بھی میئر کراچی کی پریس ریلیز کو بڑے اہتمام سے صفحہ اول کی اسٹوری کے طور پر شائع کردیا۔ یہ پریس ریلیز سرکاری ایجنسی اے پی پی نے جاری کی تھی۔ اخبار نے خبر کے صحیح ہونے کے بارے میں ہم سے رابطہ بھی نہیں کیا۔ ایک صحافی نے ہمیں بتایا کہ کراچی کی شہری حکومت نے تو پورے شہر کو مصطفی کمال کو مبارکباد کے بینروں سے بھر دیا ہے جن میں کہا گیا ہے کہ فارن پالیسی نے ان کو دنیا کا دوسرا بہترین میئر قرار دیا ہے لیکن میگزین نے ایسا کچھ نہیں کیا۔ اگر فارن پالیسی میگزین کا ”بلاگ“توجہ سے پڑھ لیا جاتا تو اس غلطی سے بچا جاسکتا تھا۔ فارن پالیسی میگزین نے میئرز کی کوئی درجہ بندی نہیں کی اور نہ ہی کسی کو کسی پر ترجیح دی ہے۔ اس کے باوجود کراچی سٹی گورنمنٹ نے اپنی ویب سائٹ پر یہ پریس ریلیز جاری کردی اور مصطفی کمال کو مبارکباد کا شور مچ گیا۔یہ غلط خبر پاکستانی ٹی وی‘ ریڈیو اور بلاگز میں بھی چل گئی۔ ترجمان کے مطابق اس سے بڑھ کر یہ ہوا کہ کراچی سٹی کونسل میں اس پر بڑی گرما گرم بحث ہوئی کہ مصطفی کمال کو ہماری طرف سے دی گئی مبینہ ”عزت افزائی“ پر مبارکباد کی قرارداد منظور کی جائے۔ واضح رہے کہ فارن پالیسی میگزین میئروں کی درجہ بندی کا کام نہیں کرتا یہ کام صرف اربن افیئرز نامی تھنک ٹینک ورلڈ میئر ڈاٹ کام کی ویب سائٹ کے ذریعہ کرتا ہے اور اس نے 2005ءمیں ناظم کراچی نعمت اللہ خان کو دنیا کے 9 بہترین میئرز میں شامل کیا تھا۔ اس کے جواب میں ایک عالمی جھوٹ کے ذریعہ مصطفی کمال کو دوسرے نمبر پر ظاہر کیا گیا جبکہ 2005ءکے بعد سے اب تک کراچی کے کسی میئر کا کوئی تذکرہ نہیں ہے۔ اس سال کیپ ٹاﺅن‘ زیورخ اور وینزویلا کے شہر چکاﺅ کے نمبر بالترتیب پہلے‘ دوسرے اور تیسرے ہیں۔ پاکستان کا کوئی بھی میئر 50 میئروں کی فہرست میں شامل نہیں ہوسکا۔ ذرائع کے مطابق فارن پالیسی کا نام اپنے مفاد میں استعمال کرنے پر شدید عالمی رد عمل پایا جاتا ہے جس سے کراچی کی شہری حکومت کی ساکھ خراب ہوئی ہے۔
اس وقت شہر بھر میں ناظم شہر مصطفی کمال کو دنیا کا”بہترین دوسرا“ میئرقرار دینے کے مبارکبادی بینرز آویزاں ہیں۔ پاکستانی میڈیا اپنی خبروں میں بتارہا ہے کہ ”فارن پالیسی میگزین“ نے سٹی ناظم کراچی مصطفی کمال کو دنیا کا ”بہترین دوسرا“ نامزد کیا ہے۔ اس سلسلے میں ”پی کے پالیٹکس ڈاٹ کام“ نے فارن پالیسی میگزین کو ایک ای میل بھیج کر اس خبر کی تصدیق طلب کی جواب میں فارن پالیسی میگزین نے اس خبر کو غلط قرار دیا۔ فارن پالیسی میگزین کو لکھے گئے برقی خط (ای میل) اور اس کے جواب کو قارئین کے لیے ویب سائٹس پر شائع بھی کیاگیا ہے۔ فارن پالیسی میگزین کو بھیجی گئی ای میل میں خبر کی حقیقت معلوم کرنے کے علاوہ میئرز کی درجہ بندی کرنے کے طریقے کے بارے میں استفسار کیاگیا تو جوابی ای میل میں فارن پالیسی نے لکھا کہ میگزین نے میئرز کی کوئی درجہ بندی نہیں کی ہے۔ اگرچہ مصطفی کمال کا تذکرہ مضمون ” 2008ءکے گلوبل سٹی انڈیکس“ کے ”میئرز آف دی مومنٹ“ میں کیا گیا ہے تاہم اس سے مراد درجہ بندی نہیں تھی بلکہ ان شہروں کے میئرز کا ذکر نا تھا جہاں نامساعد حالات کے باوجود جدید منصوبے شروع کیے گئے ہیں۔ فارن پالیسی میگزین نے بتایا کہ اگرچہ ہم مصطفی کمال کی کوششوں کی تحسین کرتے ہیں تاہم میگزین میں ان کا تذکرہ ایک بڑے مضمون کا ایک چھوٹا سا حصہ تھا جس میں دنیا کے عالمی شہروں کی درجہ بندی کی گئی تھی اور اس میں کراچی کا نمبر 57 واں تھا۔ فارن پالیسی میگزین نے دنیا کے 60 شہروں میں کراچی کو 57 ویں درجے پر رکھا ہے۔ میگزین نے دنیا کے کل 60 شہروں کی 5 حوالوں سے درجہ بندی کی تھی۔ کراچی کو معاشی سرگرمی (Business activity) کے لحاظ سے 56 واں، انسانی سرمایہ (Human Capital) کے اعتبار سے 57 واں، معلومات کا تبادلہ Information Exchange) 52(، ثقافتی تجربہ (Cultural Experience) 59 جبکہ سیاسی مصروفیت Political Engagement) (پر 55 واں درجہ ملا۔ مجموعی طور پر کراچی کو دنیا کے 60 بڑے شہروں میں 57 واں شہر قرار دیا گیا ہے۔علاوہ ازیں اس حوالے سے رابطہ کرنے پر فارن پالیسی جریدے کی میڈیا اینڈ پبلک ریلیشن کوآرڈینیٹر جیناحسن نے وضاحت کی کہ گوکہ مصطفی کمال کا جریدے کی جانب سے حال ہی میں شائع کیے گئے مضمون ”2008ءگلوبل سٹیز انڈیکس“ کے سب ٹائٹل ”میئرز آف مومنٹ“ میں تذکرہ کیا گیا ہے کیونکہ وہ شہری ترقی کے لیے قابل تعریف کام کررہے ہیں، تاہم اس کا تعلق کسی بھی طرح میئرز کی درجہ بندی سے نہیں ہے۔ جینا حسن کا کہنا تھا کہ یہ بات واضح ہوجانی چاہیے کہ مصطفی کمال کو دنیا کا دوسرا بہترین میئر قرار ہرگز نہیں دیا گیا۔

any Pakistani even appearing as good in foreign press is a great achievement and good luck for us. I don’t know how good he is in foreign press, but this should be good enough for us. For Pakistanis he is No1 and no one no one else. Please don’t do this for love of Pakistan.

I think anyone not accepting MQM as a reality and the only representative of Karachi’s massive population is living in fool’s paradise.
We (even as a punjabi) living in Karachi for so long acknowlegdes MQM as a very strong political force and I must mention here especially the Haq Parast local govt. who is serving Karachi at every corner of the city without any discrimination.
Hats off to Mustafa Kamal and MQM for the efforts in transforming Karachi a real International City. I don’t know why my brothers (Punjabis) are jealous of the progress and development of Karachi.
Produce sincere and dedicated peple like Mustafa Kamal and you will see the change in Lahore, Pindi, Faisalabd and Multan OR vote MQM in next election and then you will see how they will change the destiny of your cities.
