Hillary Clinton Must Talk Sense
By Brig. (r) Junaid Zaman • Jul 21st, 2009 • Category: Politics • 25 CommentsIt’s amazingly strange as how American officials become so changed in New Delhi and how they change color as soon as they land in Islamabad. First Richard Holbrooke and now Hillary Clinton have made two recent examples of this attitude.
The visiting United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton Monday said here that there’s a real will on Pakistan part to fight terrorism and that US will continue its financial aid. What exactly does Hillary knows about terrorism and Pakistan’s role and the ground realities and challenges in the region? I seriously doubt that she knows where in the hell the Waziristan and Swat are in the region, let alone the possibility of her knowing about the intracacies of this war. Her knowledge even failed to keep check on her hubby during his tenure, so how could one expect her to grasp this global monster and who is doing what.
Hillary should be where the action is. Pakistan is at the forefront of this war, sacrificing with infrastructure, resources and above all blood. Pakistani soldiers are dying daily and civilian deaths are mounting. We are at the verge of economic meltdown and the society is in disarray. Yet Hillary gives us sermons just across the border from where the terrorism is being supported, managed and financed in FATA and Balochistan.
Hillary should thank her star that Barack Obama blessed her with this portfolio though clearly she is not at par with this global post. May be Sarah Palin would be a better choice, as at least our President understands her better.

I am a secular Indian just like the overwhelming majority of Indians are. I grew up in a town with 20% muslim population, grew amidst loudspeaker blaring Muslim prayer calls from the mosque. My father was a teacher, his muslim students would bring tiffin carrier full of dishes for Ramzan. I believe in India and Pakistan coexisting peacefully with the current borders and work on economic growth and alleviation of poverty. The trajectories of India and Pakistan have diverged, and we feel vindicated about the wrong path chosen by Pakistan.
About this author’s claim of India support of terrorism in FATA, and Balochistan, we only wish it is true. For some 30 years, Pakistan has used terrorism as an instrument of state policy. In the same time India got stronger is a different story. If India could sponsor terrorism in FATA and Balochistan, perhaps this can be used as a negotiating tool as Pakistan does turning on and off the terror tap.
About the other comments aabout Pakistan’s sacrifices, it is a myth. Unless you diagnose the illness correctly, getting cured is impossible. More truthful description would be your military dictator Zia vigorously implemented Islamization with public support. The public support came about in the hopes and dreams of Islamic empire, Islamic glory.
You willingly rented yourselves for billions of dollars of aid, for military gadgets. Most importantly you volunteered to be a willing puppet of USA in the dear hopes of “standing up to “ India or more specifically to be able to undermine India. Blaming the US indicates you are not planning to change course.
Raj - you are getting into an unnecessary argument. Everyone except the Pakistanis understand where the issue is. One day someone will pay for all this.
I too agree with you.. that if India has not intervened in Balochistan yet.. it should. There is no reason why Pakistan should be let off so cheaply. One cannot start a war and then cry its too difficult. You need to have b***s to fight what you started. If Balochistan goes, so does Gwadar, Natural Gas, Copper, and Nuclear testing sites. Its a better hit for India than Punjab is.
brigadier sahib, i am really sorry to say this but you are blabbering…..you started off your article with what Mrs. Clinton said about Pakistan and you end up with personals…..you should not be mixing the two….your article doesnt make any sence to me
Brig,
Hillary should be in Pakistan, Barack Obama should be in Pakistan, Gordon Brown should be in Pakistan, the Royal family from Saudi, UAE, Kuwait, etc should be in Pakistan. They all should be there in Pakistan and take care of needs of Pakistan as they are in forefront of this war.
If that is what you expect then sorry they could not understand you. I apologies on their behalf.
Just because you are fighting a war with the people who helped and created and cherished does not mean everyone should be running around you. It is the mess you guys created and you need to clean it no one is going to do that for you.

how much our army officers have been indluged in self made superiroity complex under musharf regime, this aritcle is an example of it.Our BA pass musharf also did same things .He guided all intellectuals and technical people through his unseen wisdom but by pointing guns toward them.Such kind of wisdom through power of guns was widely spread all over Pakistan and now utilizing in spreading democracy from a true dictator in US universities only. All know who are funding his lectures but see the power of super power that one of strongest democracy of world is hearing lecture from a general who himslef broke the law of country many times.
So brig shaib is also suffering of this disease and trying to guide the one of genius American lady who always guided successfully to his two time president husband, run successfully a law firm and and has been proved to be one of finest politician of US, with his implanted military wisdom owing to superiority complex developed under musaharf era.The power supply of this superiority complex is to rule your own weak people so he is thinking that clinton is also a weak lady who are doing wrong things.
Nazia,
I am confused. Brig should be having inferiority complex rather than superiority complex.
I guess that is what you meant.
Junaid Zaman Says, “Hillary should be where the action is. Pakistan is at the forefront of this war, sacrificing with infrastructure, resources and above all blood. Pakistani soldiers are dying daily and civilian deaths are mounting. We are at the verge of economic meltdown and the society is in disarray.”
What I extract from his lines that Why she is not visiting Pakistan, why USA is getting close to India, why they are not giving us more aid etc etc… Mr. Junaid, you must accept that it is Army who sowed the seed of terrorism in Pakistan. It is Army who killed thousands of innocent people in Balochistan. This all hatred is grown up in the times of Military Dictatorship. India grown up economically and our government grown up in terrorism and shame.
Every body is wise and intelligent except rulers of Pakistan. USA is getting close to India, not because India is some kind holy place for Americans…It is because India is one of the largest economic country so USA goes there to sell their products. Indian are wise and they are not flying in air that USA is getting close to us… they know why US is coming toward us and they are cashing this thing from US also.
Pakistan should make their worth to attract countries. A country where corruption increases 400% in just 2 years (Transparency International report about pakistan)… who will come and invest?

I specifically mentioned self made superiority complex.Understand the real depth of this meaning.Such human condition appears when people live and grow in Yes SIR culture and then try to impose same type of obedience training to his juniors and when his juniors also say him yes sir , he thinks he is one of genius man of the world. That kind of specie is not dangerous as long as they live in barracks but when they are trying to meddle in civilian/political areas through their illogical and typical military mind set , catastrophic results start appearing in civil infrastructure .Even then their self made superiority complex never give way to go to depth of real problems and that is poor vision and disastrous management.
Raj,
your venomous blog appears to be betraying your supposedly good intentions.
I think we must see the Rodham Hillary Clinton visit to India in its right prospective. This visit is a continuation and part of that big plan which was initiated by ex-President George W Bush where United States wants to develop a future friendship with india and assist and pamper India so that they both can join hands and build a viable resistance against the emerging future Economic Giant – China.
USA also sees that India is the future emerging power of this region.US policies in India are already bearing good fruit that with US best moves made and blessings- Manmohan singh (pro-Us party) has again been in power. As a good gesture she has arrived in India with American gifts to new Indian regime with 126 jet fighters worth $10 Billion and to build 2 new US Nuclear reactors site selected by US in India which is also worth $10 Billions.
Clinton also signed a technology agreement that will permit the use of U.S. parts on Indian satellite launch vehicles and to establish a $30 million fund for joint science and technology projects.
“We do not, however, intend for this to be a dialogue between (Indian) ministers or even between governments, but between our nations and our peoples, our scientists and business leaders, our civil society activists and academics, charitable foundations, farmers, educators, doctors, entrepreneurs,” Clinton told reporters.
In India in her lecture to University students at Delhi, Hillary reiterated that; ‘we believe that a significant number of accused who were involved in the planning and execution of 9/11 live in the border areas of Pakistan and we have informed Pakistan about them,” said Clinton.
The Obama administration certainly regards India as an emerging world power and a key to turning the tide against violent Islamic extremism.
In this scenario, she is not visiting Pakistan instead Mr. Richard Holbrook US AfPak envoy will be visiting here. Where as India enjoys bliss of US friend ship and her Secretary visit;Pakistan is put in a slot of AfPak policy and is getting ready to get Holbrook taunts.
Regards
In short:
Rodham Clinton visit to India puts Pakistan in: Annay wali thaan tey.— and with a brief note; Hoar Choopo
Rodham’s visit is nothing but a high-level threatening episode in this war against terrorism.
when i first saw the headlines “Clinton to visit S Asia”
i thought finally some one responsible has been entrusted with an important job, some who can understand whats going on, finally the right man for the right job! (because i thought the “Clinton” would be Bill not his wife)
but when i found out it was Hillary , the above thought again came to my mind but with a negative
Despite all blame games, India is practicing terror in the ground with full support of the “doobta suraj” the US.
@Rag, you demonstrates, “bagal may churry mu may Ram Ram.”
@5 nazia
Hilary clinton is Law graduate and so does barrak obama. Pervez Musharraf is also a graduate and has passed numerous professional examinations in Pakistan and abroad to reach to the coveted rank of General. So what is special in Hillary that makes you fall in love with her, her law firm, her ex president husband, her white skin.
Pervez Musharraf has gained lot of experience in fighting terrorism and he is well aware of geoghraphical, pyschological, social and political dimensions of the war on terror. People who are inviting him for lectures are not fools as they want to know about his first hand experience and knowledge of war on terrorism. By the way he is not giving any lecture on democracy to these already democartically established countries.
We should be proud of this fact that any of our presidents is able enough to teach these people whom people like you seemed to be so impressed.
Being a military man is a source of honour and pride and saying that only civilians are genius and intelligent is totally wrong. Military makes a person more organized, disciplined and hard working and we have examples where military officers performed far better than the failed civil beuracrats.
Pesornal hatred and disliking should not maul and overcome ones logical thinking and each case to be judged on merit alone.. Everybody makes mistakes and learns through the process. The main thing is the good intentions, integrity, honesty and will to work for the country to the fullest of his ability, and this is what Pervez Musharraf did.
@ 15
>>>>>>>>>>The main thing is the good intentions, integrity, honesty and will to work for the country to the fullest of his ability, and this is what Pervez Musharraf did.
yeah right !
he did it by throwing out the prime minister, going against the oath he took
took upon america”s war , making pakistan army a mercenary, leaving the pakistani people insecure in their own country, putting pakistan to the brink by killing akbar bughti,
what was that about ” will to work for the country “?
@ 15
>>>>>>>>>>>>>People who are inviting him for lectures are not fools as they want to know about his first hand experience and knowledge of war on terrorism.
oh they wanted some one to lecture them on fiction?
cause the only part musharrf played in the “WoT” was accept the USAid and transfer it to his and his cronies’s account
Brig Sb: May be Sarah Palin would be a better choice, as at least our President understands her better.
you like zardari also fell for the beauty queen?
