Happy Wedding of 64 Millions Eastern Sheep…Applause!!!!

By Engr. K. Shahzad • Jul 10th, 2009 • Category: Politics, Worth A Second Look • 15 Comments

Let’s talk about 80 of 170 Millions sheep who were the registered voters to elect their representatives in Election-08, out of which approx. 36 Millions (46%) bothered to voice their choice through vote. And taking the hint from literacy rate (50%) the half of these 18 Million were illiterate, leaving the 18 Million literate to elect the rulers on the behalf of 170 Million total populations. Means only slightly above 20% of the total population (10% if we rely on literates) decided the future of Pakistan for the next four year i.e. 2008-2012.

I will not talk about these 20% rather I will prefer to talk about the rest of 80%, the 134 Million sheep who were too sheepish to express their existence through vote. To exclude roughly the 70 Million minors, what is the excuse of 64 Million to not to cast the vote? And when they didn’t express their choice, what right do they keep to criticize the government?

The answer which I hear all the times is that we were choice less as both options were worse to the extreme extent. Well, fair enough than why didn’t they make political party of their own? And if they couldn’t do that than why didn’t they join the existing parties to put pressure on the parties by being part of the party. And if they couldn’t join even the parties, why didn’t they came up with their set of demands to the existing parties and saying we will vote you on the following set of demands.

So in that case there would have been two options. Either any of the party would have accepted their set of demands (to score clear victory on opponent) or nobody would have accepted that. In the case of rejection of set of demands they still had their voice on record that what they had demanded and why they refused to participate in the electoral process.

But what reason they do really have to make hue and cry as they themselves have adopted the byway of sheepish sheep. And not the courageous sheep that follow the shepherd directly, but the sheep that follow the 20% sheep (out of which 10% were illiterate)!

So, when the best minds, the professionals (doctors, engineers, management professionals and educated one or the awared ones) of our nation preferred to be represented by illiterate innocent peasants or political Jialas, what right do they have to protest now?

This blog is dedicated to political Jialas as at least they had the courage (for whatever reasons) to voice their choice through vote.

To the rest 134 Millions; Do you accept Mr.……….as President for next 4 years?

Qabool hay? (you do?)

Silence

Qabool hay? (you do?)

Silence

Qabool hay (you do?)

Silence (Mashraqi Haya, Silence means we do)

Congratulations, you are hereby newlywed. He will represent you and take decision & loans on yours behalf for next four years. Applause!!!

Note: - The statistical figures are approx. and have been taken from the internet, blogs and newspaper (may vary little bit from actual figures)

  1. is this supposed be funny?

i think it should be funny because its not nearing the ground realities…however it is closer to statistics

probably the author must have heard the base line in some drawing room conversation and made a blog out of it

    PS.

whats with the author and the sheeps?

“The Silence Of The Lambs” would have had made a better title, and the only interesting thing in the blog

  2. Dear Arias

Thank you very much for reading this blog.

I respect your opinion. For sure I am not different from other Pakistanis. You are right that the punch line is not my innovation, rather it is inspiration from Paulo Coelho’s Alchemist and George Orwell’s Animal form. However it has nothing to do with the suspense novel, “The silence of the lamb” by Thomas Harris and movie on it afterwords.

I will try to keep in mind your suggestions for improvement in future brother.

  3. Lambs are never silenced but only when they are busy in eating so zardari like people knows very well to keep quite his jiyalas through money, jobs to their relatives, ministries, international trips even rituals like ummrah was used to silence these lambs.so what more one can do to degrade himself up to such levels which we are seeing in our state houses these days.
This marriage was not done by local maulvi but US priest has done it by holding army guns toward these lambs.
so lambs are lambs always .Keep eating by bowing their heads down to earth.

  4. NIce article….. after a loooooooooooooooong time…..
    :-)

  5. very true Mr. Shehzad…..we never bother to vote but are always too eager to criticize the people who come to power !!! …..very nicely written indeed,

  6. The easiest thing in the world may be to criticise even the most wondrous leader and weave all sort of scandalous webs around him.

But yes; when we do not make any effort to use our power even to go out and cast our vote to mark some ‘in put’; we have got no right to ask for the out put.

Any how when we have elected a person as our representative and installed him as our head; this should also be borne in mind that we also have surrendered our rights to criticise him and are obliged to simply accept the consequences.

After all, democracy teaches us lessons of certain bindings.

  7. Yes
true our democracy which is nickel plated by US is really teaching us lot of lessons and we are really learning a lot from our serious blunders whom we initially ignored as of worthless values in field of Politics.Nobody had ever thought that benazir entry into grave would give presidential seat to zardari and we have got mummy of musharf through this way. This kind of binding was really unbelievable for people who come out for free judiciary and rule of law in our state.
This is really wonder land or farm land of millions of lambs.

  8. There is no doubt that Master Zardari is incidental head of the state.

Miss Bhutto was allowed to avail her orchestrated entry to move to rein of power in Pakistan [*] on the laid out carpets for her—- named as NRO but owing to the sad demise of hers— that when she started trekking up to grab the seat of power she went off the scene and although this nation then stood there with yet another chance to correct its bearing (Qiblah) but unfortunately failed to that.

No one or say nation could move beyond the stretch of their imagination and vision and we got what we deserved.

Let’s reap what all we have been sowing and hope for the best; if at all we are allowed to see our tomorrows.

[*]On the US planned termination of dictatorial term in Pakistan

  10. There are good signs that masses in Pakistan and its democracy both are coming to a boiling point and looking for recognition of their identity.

    • Pakistan to have recognised that it’s a sovereign nation.
    • Miss democracy when it’s known that it’s not installed but bears its true roots among the masses.

Any how: Hanooz Delhi dour asat.

[Paewasta reh shajar sey; umeed e bahaar rakh]

  11. @ 10

Lets see, how long we take to realize our strength. As per previous election statistics 20% minority is enforcing its will on 80% silent majority of Pak.
