Hanging by a wire-line
By Guest Blogger • Sep 2nd, 2010 • Category: Politics • 4 Comments3 blasts took place, today, right after ‘Iftari’ time near Gamay Shah, Lahore. This incident took place in the Yaum-e-Shahadat Ali procession. With over a hundred people injured and nearly 8 declared dead.
This country has gone to the dogs. This tragic incident left the people helpless and angered. We have had to face a flood that has gone down in the history books as the most devastating natural disaster ever. We have had to face international humiliation because of the spot-fixing scandal. We have had to face the brutal killings of the two brothers in Sialkot. And now, we are facing a suicidal attack.. My apologies, 3 suicidal attacks.. on a very important day in the Islamic calendar. Indeed, the country has gone to the dogs.
All this, in the month of Ramazan.
Whenever things start to look a little bright, they are shattered by another incident. Bomb blasts are like weekly stories, here, in Pakistan. We don’t need people from outside to try and invade us. We don’t need them to break us apart, to divide and rule us. No sir. Because we already do that, to us. We have political parties to divide us. We have social sects to divide us. We have religious sects to divide us. We have provinces that divide us. A once united country has now been divided so finely, that even if we go teach our children about how many provinces they have in their country, we are so profoundly confused about what to tell them.
We don’t need aid from outside, we don’t need help of any kind to help us survive. We are a population of, more or less, 18 crore. All the help we need, is the help to stand, united.

These blasts have broken the fragile peace in Lahore. This city has been prime target of the terrorists because of the resilience its people have shown to extremist ideology.
Our country stands at a point where it is important for the people to decide our fate. We must fight ideologies of men like Taliban who are trying to conquer Pakistan and impose their bogus rules.
The questions raised by the author are true and certainly very important. Division is so deep rooted in our society that it seems intricate to revert back to the values that were once ours.
Well, the country has gone to dogs, that’s for sure. Where do we stand nobody knows. Is turning back possible? I don’t think so!
