Green Zones in Pakistan
By Sameer Shaharyar • Nov 8th, 2008 • Category: Politics, Worth A Second Look • 3 CommentsIn order to thwart the terrorists attacks in Islamabad and in the provincial capitals upon the important government offices and embassies and other installations, it is being seriously considered that Iraq and Kabul-like green zones are to be established where entry would be restricted and scanning would be conducted on all the inlets and even at the gates of the sensitive-declared buildings.
The Green Zone is also called as ‘The International Zone.” The International Zone is commonly referred to as the “Ultimate Gated Community” due to the numerous armed checkpoints, coils of razor wire, chain link fences, and the fact it is surrounded by “T-Walls” (reinforced and blast-proof concrete slabs).
In Iraq, The Green Zone is also called “The Bubble” - is the hub of the vision for the New Iraq. It is almost self-sufficient, and staff working there can be treated in the compound’s hospital or run safely in its grounds. When they leave, it is by armored car with an armed military escort.
The Green Zone (the common name for the International Zone of Iraq) is a 10 km² (4 mile²) area in central Baghdad that was the center of the Coalition Provisional Authority and remains the center of the international presence in the city. Its official name beginning under the Iraqi Interim Government is the International Zone, though Green Zone remains the most commonly used term. The contrasting Red Zone refers to parts of Baghdad immediately outside the perimeter, but is also loosely applied to all unsecured areas outside the off-site military posts. Both terms originated as military designations.
So, if they implement Green Zones in Islamabad, at any corner, then that would mean the rest of the Islamabad would be red zone? Our rulers would surely live in the Green Zone, while we would be left at the mercy of heartless terrorists in the red zones, which would be made redder with our blood. Americans have built these zones in Iraq and Afghanistan to enjoy their rule, while the Iraqi or Afghan army for that matter fight with their own countrymen and they both kill each other, while US safeguards and enjoys in the Green Zones unharmed.
If they implement these zones in Pakistan, is that mean that our rulers are alien and they would let the common people fight with the terrorists, while rulers save their NRO, power and privileges?

Typical US strategy in his slave countries for saving their cronies and in such colonies where US are interested in miliatary operations in nearby areas.Pakistani Society is already divided into colony life styles that woulld ultimately show dangerous trends in civic life as it clearly mark the lines between different classes in same society.DHA adminstration is on front line for creating such colonies for their coward and impotent officers and latter rich civillians are also following same footsteps for securing their assets in specific boundaries.Now such colonies have hired their own security men and system and charging extra money from their residents.This behaviour is another example of Pakistan heading towards stone age as whole world is try to follow the principles of globalisation but our green zones and abundance of colonies are heading us towards colonisation.Our foriegn returned leaders are fulfiling the place of East India company and our generals are playing the role of local traitors who are protecting and leading those aliens. History is again repeating its cycle in our left over land of muslims.
Well said by writer and commentors. and still we expects that our citizen will behave like a nation. At the time of need…Poors/Middle Class to give their life for saving country….AND…. At the time of reward…. Elite and Army Officers to get every thing…even the loaf is snatched from the mouth of poor.
