Gmail Attachment Alert: Another Reason to Love GMAIL

By Shayan Khan • Mar 14th, 2010 • Category: Technology • 5 Comments

From previewing the text, XML, PDF and other file formats to security to drafts to everything, Gmail is the darling and it has really made email a fun, when everybody is twittering, facebooking and googling.

How many times is it that you composed an email to send your CV to employer. You wrote cover letter in the body of the email and clicked the send  button, and as the email got sent, you suddenly became horrified to remember that you forgot to attach the CV????????????

Now Gmail takes care of that. Don’t get creepy by knowing that Gmail is reading your emails :)

If you put sentence like “I am attaching file with this email….” in the body and forgot to attach the file, Gmail will pop up a message like following:

gmail-alert

You Gotta love it.

  1. yeah man, this happened to me and instead of being amazed I was scared in terms of privacy concerns :P

  2. I just discovered this little tool a few minutes ago. I was responding to job postings on Craigslist and made a note in the body of my email, “I have attached a copy of my resume.” When I was done, I hit send and forgot to attach my resume! GMail came back with the exact same alert that you posted above. My very first thought was, “Wait… how did GMail know? It must’ve been reading my email!” and I began thinking about privacy concerns as well, but then I came to a conclusion- I don’t think GMail actually “reads” your email. I think it just keeps an eye out for key phrases/words relating to file attachment. It then compares that against whether you have attached a file or not. If you have, then great! It sends the email. But if you haven’t, that’s when the little alert box pops up to remind you.

I personally am not at all worried about this affecting the privacy of my emails. I think it is simply a useful script that will help people far more than it will hinder them. I praise Google for doing this. Just one more reason to love the geniuses at work behind Google and GMail.
