Giving Israel more Time to Weaken Hamas in Gaza

Daily Haaretz, Jerusalem (not so conservative) Israeli news paper says in their analysis:

The international community, headed by the U.S. and Egypt, is giving Israel time to carry out the ground offensive in Gaza, so it will severely damage Hamas’ regime. The rationale behind such a move is that a weakened Hamas would improve the chances of achieving a stable agreement in Gaza once the fighting subsides.  And so there is a degree of foot-dragging in the diplomatic efforts to reach a cease-fire. The most visible sign of this was the decision to postpone the United Nations Security Council discussion on Gaza planned for Monday.

France postponed the discussion to Wednesday, to ensure that it would be held after French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s visit to the region tomorrow.

During her visit to France on Thursday, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni had requested that the discussion be postponed.>  In its efforts to formulate a draft for an agreement with Hamas in the wake of Operation Cast Lead, the designated team of Israeli officials is aiming to bring about the restoration of the cease-fire with Hamas, which expired on December 19, in addition to steps to curb Hamas’ arms-smuggling through the border with Egypt.

The officials, all of them from the Prime Minister’s Office, the defense establishment and the Foreign Ministry, are not seeking to introduce international enforcement bodies, but rather the introduction of an upgraded border control system on the Egyptian side of the border. The U.S. administration supports such a move, and is expected to assist the Egyptians in stepping up their efforts to control the border.

Currently, Israeli officials are trying to find a work program that would not infringe on Egyptian sovereignty, which is why Israeli diplomats are pessimistic about the prospect of stationing an international force in the Sinai Peninsula.

According to sources in the U.S., President George W. Bush has intercepted an initiative by his secretary of state, Condoleezza Rice and her British counterpart, Secretary of State David Miliband, to formulate a cease-fire draft.

One source said Bush instructed the State Department to refrain from action in the matter. To date, the U.S. has refrained from sending any envoys or delegates to the region. According to officials, the U.S. and Israel are cooperating diplomatically on the issue.

Egypt’s unexpected support for Israel in the conflict with Hamas has, according to Israeli diplomats, been a pleasant surprise for Jerusalem.

  1. On January 3, 2008, Security Council meeting failed to reach on any agreement and consent because of Washington ill-logical and biased stance of US over Gaza Issue. President Bush has earlier said that Israel has the liberty to use her air or land forces for butchering innocent Gazans. His adopted child (Israel) has rejected appeals of world community for stopping attacks on Gaza. As a result of her State terrorism so far over 500 Palestinians have been killed and more than 3000 injured since December 27, 2008. These victimized individuals include innocent women, children, and other civilians. Islamabad also condemned the aggressions and asked world community to stop Israeli ruthless actions against innocent people of Palestine.

The photograph of martyred and wounded reveal that maximum individuals have suffered burnt injuries as a result of cluster bombing of Israeli aircrafts. The air strikes took place as youngsters left school for the day and television pictures from one compound showed uniformed bodies lying in a pile as those wounded writhed in pain. One of the police stations had been hosting a graduation ceremony at the time of the attacks. Gaza Police Chief Tawfiq Jabber and commander of Hamas are among those killed in the raids which took just minutes and left columns of thick black smoke billowing across the area. On December, 2008, Israel also rejected a French call for a 48-hour pause in its devastating barrage of the Gaza Strip, despite increasing calls around the world for a ceasefire between it and Hamas. The call was made to supply food and other necessities of life to the people those are blocked in the Gaza since couple of months. Most of the Palestinian families are so poorer and normally dependent on UN handouts that have had to cease because of the deadly bombardment, had started foraging for wild plants to cook and eat because of ruthless actions of Israel. World community particularly Muslim, states, China and Russia condemned Israeli brutality and asked her to stop antagonism.

However implementations of UN resolutions on Tel Aviv terrorism are yet to be enforced because Washington seems deliberating backing up Israeli ruthless actions against innocent Gazans. None of the supper power asked United Nations to impose sanctions over Israeli for her inhuman actions against innocent Gazans, where as American media along with her European Alliances started crying on the death of 200 individuals as result of terrorists act on TaJ Hotel. The attacks on Mumbai made headlines around the world but Americans and her loyal media is not raising voices against Israeli violence.

  2. The question is if Hammas has any power to fight a war with Israel? If the answer is no which I do beleive is then firing rockets is only going to harm Palestinians and give Israel an ‘excuse’ to kill Palestinians. Why would someone play in Israel’s hand to kill own people?

  3. Hamas is terrorist organization and should be destroyed (as any other terrorist organization).
Take a look the list of attacks Hamas launched against Israel only in 2008
