GEO Lost, Zardari Won
By Umer Toor • Mar 4th, 2010 • Category: Politics • 8 CommentsAll the media clowns, conspiracy theorists, spin wizards and arm-chair strategists on the payroll of GEO and Jang Group have become tepid, hopeless and grim, as despite of their hard efforts, the sun of Zardari is illuminating with full vigor on the horizon of Pakistan, and the people of Pakistan have prevailed once again under the full democratic moon.
Dr. Shahid Masood must be turning in his chair in the backdrop of his “Meray Mutabiq” melodrama, in which he wistfully hope against hope that somehow with his stretched figments of imagination, right after his programme, Zardari will vanish in thin year. But alas, week after week, deadline after deadline, conspiracy after conspiracy, analysis after analysis, and farce after farce; the Zardari stays.
It’s quite amusing and funny to watch the programs of the Dr. Shahid Masood, Hamid Mir, Kamran Khan and others on the GEO television and to read their analysis in the Jang and The News. Desperation and Frustration and gloom is the name of game in their words these days. Shaheen Sehbai, Saleh Zafir, Haroon Rasheed and the likes of them are ill at ease, that nobody has come out of their homes just due to their programs and writings. Even opposition has refused to play to the tunes of the Baray Mir Sahib. Establishment and the judiciary is also at the sidelines, while the democracy blooms.
Tssk. Tssk. Tssk for the ones who wanted to be the king makers.

GEO’s coverage is as big a farce as this Presidency. If we can survive these five years of corruption and nepotism then we might be able to achieve some sort of economic and political stability.
The desire of being Kingmaker is common these days in most of our media and Geo undoubtedly wants to show off at every possible time.
But that being said, Win for Zardari is Loss of Pakistan …. We are in crisis and you will know it when Zardari regime is finally over but our people just never see to understand and never base their decisions on facts …..
Facts:
Zardari was a major cause of the down-fall of Benazir’s second tenture as PM …..
Zardari has been in jail for over 10 years on account of massive corruption …..
Zardari has been an International Criminal accused of Frauds and ill deeds ….
Zardari’s history as a business man cannot justify the Property and Money he is sitting on …. (Money of the people of Pakistan)
Based on these facts, I hope that some Pakistanis will open their closed eyes and see Zardari for who he really is …..
How can we let Zardari manipulate us in the name of Bhutto? A dead man whose family line has been whipped out by Mr. Zardari ???
How can we not remember that Benazir Bhutto had little or no contact with Zardari for many years while he was in jail ??? (Her personal choice) She focused on her children only …. Their father was actually ignored on purpose …..
media does need to revisit its role and especially the journalists you name. They should be more focused on helping Pakistan’s way out of extremism rather than threatening the present democracy which will only give freehand to the terrorists. God help them!
Umer,
I am happy that the democratic government is still intact. I hope they complete their 5 years. But what they do in those five years is important to us. For a young country like us, 5 year time and the growth achieved in it is critical. Uptill now, in my opinion, this they haven’t done a very good job.
Media needs to be criticized just as we criticize politicians, generals, establishment, and even judges. And surely GEO has to be blamed the most becasue of its Fox News style broadcast. Also, since its one of the leaders in News industry, it should be more responsible, balanced and considerate to Pakistan’s larger national interests. It should not act like a small time tabloid news channel.
There is no doubt that Zardari should not be the president of this country. He is just not fit to be a President of a country! Jinnah would be turing in his grave to see his successor today. We all know his credentials too well and it is a pity that after the misrule of a dictator, this is what fate had to offer us. But then, he has been elected for five years by the parliament. And we voted for this parliament. And we should respect it. We should give democracy time. It will itself filter out bad politicians, but only if the process continues.
Instead of waiting for him to leave and blaming him for everthing ill around us, we should genuinely criticize him so that his government can improve governance (on which I think they are the most to blame). I think the policy of PML (N) is prudent and beneficial for the long term of the country. While PML (N) criticizes the government on issues, it does not talk of derailing the system or any midterm elections. We all should have the same approach and let this government work.
Asif Zardari is corrupt, corruption reigns in Pakistan, these perceptions are continuously talked about in electronic and print media - not to forget SMS. There is another slogan being forcefully reiterated on these media side by side “now we have independent judiciary”. This contrast looks strange to me. Asif Zardari has been voted in by those parliamentarians that have been chosen by us. Let us eat the grub we have cooked in our own kitchen.
I was not critic on media role until I watched a Capital Talk Show of Geo and in that talk show the elite TV “well informed” journalists and handpicked politicians tallked and predicted the pack up of the present democratic set up and take over by Military. They must have got some lead from somewhere. My eyes widened when all the participants looked happy and relaxed as if the would be event (wishful thinking) was “in the best interest of the country”, “it is the natural outcome of incapble and corrupt government”. No one said they would come on streets if such thing happened. No one said it would mean disaster. No one said they would resist such take over at any cost. Although “one month” prediction aborted, but it surely exposed the media at least in my eyes. Military takeovers always bring two immediate slashes, first on judiciary and second on media. Zardari or no Zardari, one more military rule and we are four pieces.
Democracy must also filter out bad fish.
LOOOOLLLL…. zardari winning? ….. we all know wat happened during the lawyers long march …. man u jallas r so ignorant that even while he has a cannon *up there* , u jz seem to support him…. Democracy is nothing but the kaffir system of rule …. so now we r kaffirs i suppose since we support their systems and deny our Islamic system of sharia law …. now we know why Muslims as a whole have turned into the scums of the earth ….
Verily, Allah will never change the condition of a people until they change what is within themselves. [Ar-Rad, 13:11]
