Forgotten Lal Masjid and Forgotten Sins

By Dr. Hassan Isfahani • May 22nd, 2008 • Category: Politics • 40 Comments

A Muslim society is empty without the Masjid. Masjid is our destination and Masjid is our source. Masjid is what guides us, and Masjid is where we are ordered to go five times a day. Masjid is the binding forces among the Muslims, and it is what gives us strength of unity and sense of being.

When bombs, shells, bullets, and poisonous gases were fired from 3rd July to 10th July 2007 on the Lal Masjid and Jamia Hafsa, the nation stood by and watch in apathy. According to the government numbers, some 300-400 girl students died and according to the more accurate and non-government stats, more than 1000 girls died in that operation. The dead bodies were not identifiable and they were buried in haste in Islamabad’s graveyard.

Allah is angry with us, and that is why we are in the vicious cycle of crisis over crisis. From power crisis to food crisis and from water crisis to inflation crisis and from law/order crisis to our insult in the world, we are at the lowest ebb. We are nowhere to be seen, and our survival is at stake. We have everything, but we seem to have nothing. We are steadily drowning, and yet we are in our criminal apathy.

A mass forgiveness should be asked from Allah Almighty for our sins. Only that will repel the curses away from us.

  1. Phosphorus bombs were used to clear the area

  2. Its a shame that mosques aren’t safe in an Islamic country.

  3. “……the nation stood by and watch in apathy. ” Because the nation understood and disaaproved the purpose for which ‘Masjid’ was being used.

“Allah is angry with us…..” . Indeed, Allah is angry with us and He is angry with us not since 1999 but for long, long time. Very long time! And we might be interested to know why. Because, we suffer from worst kind of inferiority complex; we are xenophobic; we have persecution mania; we have lived and wish to continue living in make believe world. We like to blame someone else including our fate (the ‘Kismat’) for whatever goes wrong and if nothing else we like to shift the blame for our failings on “Allah ki marzi”. And if it’s “Allah ki marzi” even then we are such ‘Be-Imans’ we moan and instead of showing grace and accept that “Allah ki marzi” we come up silly notions like “Allah is angry with us…”. I honestly believe when Allah gets angry with a people He destroys their brains and makes them loonies which are becoming and with full throttle.

  4. Lal masjid was not a masjid. When there were weapons found in any masjid it would never be called a masjid. The persons (whoever ) accumulated these weapons were terrorists having nefarious designs to weaken the country.

The people who occupied children’s liabrary by using force were terrorist and who grabbed the govt. land for extension of Jammia Hafsa must had been dealt with iron hand. The then govt. was too lenient in tackling those rogue and devilish people.

The first person, who was martyred by the some lal masjid student’s sniper, was from Rangers, he was killed without any provocation.

I pray to God that all those killed during that operation must be in hellfire for bringing bad name to Islam and Pakistan.

I hate these kind of people the day when they destroyed Quaid-e-Azam Academy in Karachi and they set on fire everything which relates to the founder of this unfortunate nation.

You are right, these people must be forgotten else if they will be remembered only as FITNA and real devils.

  6. ashiq of musharraf is nothing but a dickhead itself who don’t know how his papa musharraf screwed up Pakistain constitution and illegally captured Army house even after taking of his army underwear and clothes.

  7. Mosques are places of peace, places of contemplation were one goes to connect with Allah. Not where people teach children to be human bombs. Not were fat mullahs use those same children as human shields. Were young impressionable girls are taught anarchy and handed weapons. People like umme hassan are criminals, people who are ruining innocent children. Some one should lock that woman up and throw away the key. Mosques should teach us to be better people at least mine does.

  8. You are very right, Shaz! People like yourself must come forward and explain this whole episode and the terrorist behind this scheme to your other friends and older people. People must be told the facts. Thank you for showing your courage like a good pariotic Pakistani must do. It is important that people like yourself come forward and lead your friends.

  9. “people must be told the facts”..yeah right on!
White Phosphorus was used during “operation silence” that silenced many. W Phosphorus weapons have been used in the recent past by Israel in Lebanon, and US & UK in Iraq, but probably the first time ever by a an army against its own people…
The Geneva Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons signed into effect in 1997, expressively prohibits the use against civilians.

  11. Lal masjid was targetted and hundereds of peope, women and children were killed in a brutal action, because they were true lover of islam. They were trying to romove prostitution from Islamabad. But people of agencies targetted CD shops using name of Lal masjid and tried to give impression that Lal masjid is having negative agenda against common man and liberal people. But the fact is that Lal masjid people were having a v v v v v good agenda for betterment of society. They were targetting only prostitution.

How can we justify killing of lal masjid people in a such brutal way?????

  12. true lovers of islam fah! they dragged an old lady down the street and beat her wow this must be a new way of social reform, that will stop the prostitutes. when radical subsets of socitey make demands of it but offer no alternitive its just hipocracy. beating women in the streets dos not end prostitution but soical welfare does. if they wanted to stop prostitution maybe they should have offerred jobs that would have given these women a living wage. thats a solution. prostitutes are the creation of horrid circumstances fix those and end it but beating on the victum thats just wrong.

  13. Shaz, prostitution has been around since human beings have been around or at least since history is recorded. You can’t stop it by any means, social welfare system or not. There is this human need and it fulfills it, period.

I have a request, can you please go to the post “Behind the closed doors” and read and comment on it. You have a thinking mind and I need your comments and suggestion on it, please.

  14. WITH DEEPEST SORROW, AND REGRET I AM COMPELLED TO SAY:

    PAKISTAN IS COMEDY OF ERRORS
IS KI ABTIDA KHALAT IS KI INTAHA dUSHWAR. TWO PARTS 1000 MILES AWAY
PUNJAB, SINDH, BILOCHISTAN, FRONTIER, KASHMIR DISPUTED DIVIDED FROM VERY START,
CRORES OF MUSLIMS LEFT BEHIND IN INDIA, IN WROST HINDU SLAVERY IN NAME OF FREEDOM FOR SUB CONTINENT MUSLIMS. AND WAY OF LIFE.

    WHY

Qaid E Azam Mohanned Ali Jinnah, Muslim Leage must be well awrare of this.
But they had a dream, to turn this available opportunity into greater cause of Muslim Unity, and welfare of Muslim Ummah. BY CREATING BIGGEST ISLAMIC COUNTRY, FIFTH LARGEST NATION ON EARTH.

WE AS A NATION DISTROYED THIS DREAM, WE ALL FAILED THEM.
Lal Masjid Management, and their supporters, created a mini state within a state, right in heart of Islamabad, first Govt. authorities ignoed them. WRONG WRONG NO RELIGION,OR ISLAM or No country will allow this lawlessness in name of religion.
FINALLY MUSSHARRAFF BHAI THE ARMYMAN, AND PAIDNDO CHOUDRY BROTHERS, AND FEW MORE MENTALLY RETARDED ADVISORS, TO IMPRESS AMERICA, AND EUROPE, DECIDED TO CRUSH MISGUIDED MASOUM STUDENTS, A PIOUS REBELIOUS EDUCATED MULLAH, WITH NON SENSE PROPEGANDA, AND A HELLFIRE OF FIRE POWER. WRONG VERY WRONG . SHAME ON YOU…….SO NOW WE ALL SUFFERING AS A NATION. COMEDY OF ERRORS CONTINUES……………….mY hEART, mY PRAYERS gOES tO sHUDA e lALL mASJID
AND ALSO PRAY FOR LEADERS OF PAKISTAN. NO ZARDARI, NO NAWAZ, NO GILANI KIGHOOO, ALLAH PLEASE GIVE US ONLY ONE MORE MOHAMMED ALI JINNAH, NOT MUSTAFA KAMAL of Turkey aMEEN . SAEED KHAN TORONTO CANADA -I WISH I COULD SOMETHING

  15. Shaz & Aftab
    Dear history Scholars
Please add killing, stealing, rape, drinking, lawlessness and lot more in your list. They are around, since the history is recorded. Just imagine few prostitutes living and doing bussiness next door to you, especially when you have sisters.WHAT IS YOUR OPINION THEN
Prostitution is a crimnal offence in Canada.

  16. Prostitution is also illegal in California
    But saeed
The whacked out lal masjid ladies are not police, just brazen vigilantes. Where would the world be if every one started beating up on others who they disagree with? It would just lead to total anarchy. My point was simple if the lal masjid people really wanted to help society they might have found a less violent way to deal with the alleged prostitutes beating women and getting taped confessions really didn’t help any one.
And unlike aftab I see prostitution the world’s oldest evil. No one picks prostitute as their career goal. They need rehab and real jobs not public floggings.

  17. Listen, I am neither justifying prostitution nor encouraging it. All I am saying is, it has been around in every society and culture since history is recorded. If you try to ban it, it spreads all over the place to any neighborhood and hence the fear of being next door. Most of the european countries do not (as far as I know) have any legal restrictions, these people are issued licenses and have various health requirements etc. and are allowed in certain reserved areas, those who want it know where to get it from. And I don’t think that normal Europeans are any more or less prosmiscuous then say the normal Canadians or normal Californians or us here in Pakistan. There are some ’special’ people among us who have this need (there has always been this ’special’ kind around and everywhere) and I would not want to put a stop on it by force and let this evil be practiced undervarious names and garbs.

  18. i volunteer at a clinic and seen first hand that these women are the most exploited, broken, and barely hanging on to their sanity driven to this by men: drug dealers, boyfriends even family. No where to go nothing of their own with multiple medical and psychological issues. But they can be helped.

  19. I would think that chances of being such a victim is greater in a society which has “supposedly” banned this ‘trade / vocation / profession’ call it what you like, since doing this underground would need, I suppose, protection of such elements and thus increasing chances of exploitation.

Those who are force into this must be helped and rescued and provided a possibility to rehabilitate themselves into more acceptable norms of life.
