For Musharraf : Safe Passage or Accoutability?

By Ali Yar Khan • Aug 13th, 2008 • Category: Politics • One Response

Asif Ali Zardari, the co-chairman of Pakistan People’s Party has hinted that his party may be ready to give Musharraf a safe escape leeway, if he resigns quitly and even Ahmad Mukhtar, the defense minister has said that there would be no reproach or execution of Musharraf after the impeachment and he would be given a safe passage to anywhere in the world.

The offers by PPP are more aimed at getting rid of a constant thorn, but why they are insisting on giving Musharraf passage when he himself is ready to face the charges. Presidential spokesman Maj-Gen (retd) Rashid Qureshi has told that President Musharraf is a man of character and no one can point a finger at him. He has a clean track record, and he would not escape anywhere and would face the charges.

Then why there is talk of giving Musharraf a safe passage? He should face the charges of parliament and if impeached, then he should also face the court. But another interesting question is: what if he doesn’t get impeached, as some charlies still think?

  1. Jab Tak Rahe Gi PPP aur Zardari
Mulk Ka Lutna Rahe Ga Jaari
Jab Paisa Ho Jaye Ga Khatam
Yeh Loot Leingey Mulk Ki Izzat Bhi Saari

Sharif To Hai, Laiken Sirf Naam Ka, Yeh Nawaaz
Rahey Ga Naachta, Jab Tak Wukla Bajayein Ge Saaz
Jo Bhaag Jaata Hai Saudia, Kar Ke Sign Contract
Soch Kar… Baat Rahey Gi Yeh Ek Raaz

Aik Umeed Hai To Sirf Musharraff
Dua Hai Baandhe Rakhey Dono Ko Aik Taraf
Aur Aisi Karey Dono Ki Dhulaai
Ke Bhool Jaayein Dono Impeachment Ka Harf Harf

All those clamoring for “democracy” and “rule of law” should read this interview conducted by Public Broadcasting Corporation, USA, in 1999.

    http://www.pbs.org/newshour/media/j_awards/sethi_11-23.html

Terence Smith of PBC interviewed Najam Sethi and Jugnu Mohsin, the husband and wife team who publish The Friday Times. In the interview, Sethi and Mohsin recounts Sethi’s arrest and intimidation at the hands of the Punjab police who acting on the orders of Sharif Brothers, tortured and incarcerated Sethi. The reason? Sethi had the temerity to write about the Sharif Brother’s corruption and loan write-off’s.

One can only imagine what a police state Sharif and Zardari will turn Pakistan into once they resume full unchecked power.
