Flour Crisis Rooting Out

By Dr. Hassan Isfahani • May 7th, 2008 • Category: Politics, Worth A Second Look • No Responses

One of many prime responsibilities of the government is to supply flour to the people at affordable prices everywhere in the country through either utility stores or through the general markets.

Along with the ample supply of the flour, government needs to keep a strict check on smuggling and hoarding of the flour. The inter-provincial ban on the transport of wheat and flour is timely and it should be observed more strictly and the supply of flour between the provinces should only be conducted through the governments.

Another factor in alleviating the flour crisis in the country is to ensure that the prices in the markets of flour and wheat remains the same throughout the country according to the price fixed by the authorities. Smugglers, price hikers, hoarders and other elements involved in the flour crisis should be punished publicly and severely to set an example.

Whatever government does, it should do it swiftly, transparently and professionally to ensure the relief to the common man. They can afford to delay justice, but delaying hunger-appeasement is impossible.
